After 2 hours of drinking rifampin my pee turns into bright orange but after peeing again after about 2-4 hours my pee is almost clear.

My concern is am i absorbing it? I think my system just flushes the med right away. Is it like this to others taking rifampin?

I'm on week 2 of Rifampin. First few days my urine was orangish also. Now into the second week not as much and almost back to normal. I drink approx 50 oz water per day plus a little "lite" cranberry juice.

Got more other issues like a burning left foot and diarrhea to be concerned with. Have an LLMD appointment in a few hours. I'll ask the doc.

Hang in there... fun huh

Yes you are absorbing it. My pee is always orange after taking rifampin. It's kind of like after you take a B12 shot in your leg. Reddish pee..

Hey - it is an easy way to remember if you took your Rifampin! Sometimes with my lyme brain I forget to take a pill, and this is one way I can be reassured I did take it!

[lol]

Gmb: my hand tingling and numbness i think got worse too after being on rifampin.

Penguin: thanks i just questioned this because after 2 months on being on it im not noticing any improvement in my condition. It seems to be a waste of time taking it.

Bart can take a long time - more than 2 months for sure..

Make sure you take it far away from any probiotics and supplements. It lowers effectiveness more than any other abx from what I hear.

If you are on other abx then make sure it is not near that abx too. Don't want to lessen the effectiveness of those either..

I have orange pee from rifampin, It is a normal side effect and nothing to worry about

Penquin are you saying to take Rifampin apart from other antibiotics

I have been taking rifampin and Biaxin together for the last few months for Bart

I space the herbs and supplements apart along with probiotics but never thought about spacing biaxin and rifampin apart

I have heard that Rifampin greatly reduces anything. So while other abx are probably ok to take with abx in general, I heard that Rifampin should be taken separately.

Maybe space it just a few hours apart if you have the time slot to be able to do so.

Very tough though with all the supplements, probiotics, and binders.

Hang in there Bart is a stealth Infection, I went to see one of the top Lyme disease docs speak at a meeting over the weekend and when she talked about bart she said that it is one of the hardest infections to treat

It screwed my Central Nervous system up ,I noticed a lot of Improvement since I am on rifampin and Biaxin,

Be patient these stealth bugs can take a long time to treat,

Do you guys get dull aching pain in the bottom of your feet? Not the whole bottom of the foot but the middle area (so basically the "arch" of your foot).

My feet reaaaally ache there especially at night time. and morning but not just mornings so I'm not sure if it's Bart-related.

Bigjohn: i think the lyme and co infection thing as a whole is hard to treat. Thats why almost everyone stays in treatment for years

The pain in the feet is classic bart.

Rifampin turns all your body fluids orange - saliva and tears too.
And it even stained my teeth.

I get very sore feet from Bart, Sometimes it can even seem like plantur fasciitis, It sometimes goes away for days then it comes back

Thanks for the tip on spacing Rifampin and Biaxin apart

It can sure get trickey spacing everything apart,

I agree Kram, My doctor believes that untreated bart will prevent people from healing from Lyme disease

This Doctor I went to hear speak on saturday says that you never really get rid of this disease you bring it under subjection under your Immune system

Our Immune system had fought many wars since we were born, and won most of the battles

Neff how long were you on Bart, Does anyone know why rif causes body fluids to turn ornage

I read on the perscription that it can stain Contact lenses

I was told (by someone here) that foot pain in the morning while walking is Bart but foot pain all day is Babs.

I first got it with my Babs herxes. It also hurts when I'm laying down at night - like an ache in the middle of my foot. Sometimes the entire bottom of my feet hurt. I only get it for a few days after I rife for Babs.

Mojo - interesting that you say that. I have Babs and was treating it for about 4 months or so, but then my neurologist wanted me to treat for Bart so the babs is on hold for the moment.

It is getting very confusing to me as to what is related to lyme, bart, or babesia.

Yes my foot aches in the middle of the foot too.. and also when I lie down at night. Like a bad headache in the foot.

BigJohn - my teeth aren't staining too badly but I do notice a little stain in between some of my teeth. I am not sure if that is the Rifampin or Rocephin.
