Ever wonder what the IDSA Guideline authors do when they aren't tormenting us? I never did till I stumbled on this "hobby" that one of them has.

This article is a "new" version of an old way to supposedly help people with C. diff, and is being done by Johan Bakken (one of the IDSA Lyme guideline authors) in Minnesota.

And they call treating Lyme with antibiotics "experimental"? Anyhow...

After reading this article you will know how hard it is for me not to comment on it any further, or let's say, sling it around.

Must be you Tutu?

I tried again and it worked for me. And that is unusual for me to be able to get stuff to work. I will repost the link here, so maybe try it again.

And it could be someone in computer limbo just doesn't want you to read it?

I opened it with no problem, but I couldn't find/see the article. I just typed Johan Bakken in the search box.

Are you guys aware that fecal transplants are very effective for certain illnesses? I know a LN member who has had it done, and it greatly helps her with her c. diff. The poor girl suffers a lot from that crazy infection.

stillwater - I was mostly referring to the subject of this thread in general. I knew you were just joking. [Smile]

It looks like this thread has more males on it than females, for once. Let's keep it up, guys! We are the 1%! [lol]

Lymetoo - how do they know that the feces is coming from a clean source? Isn't there the possibility that the foreign feces might give the person strange diseases?

Also, can you share approximately how much it costs?

I've been contemplating doing this (although most likely I would never... I'm just thinking about it) because it's kinda depressing thinking how there are hundreds or thousands of different strains of bacteria in our guts, and we eliminated most of them with the abx. It's not like the 10-15 strains in the probiotic supplements are going to replace everything.

Can we say it's a new idea for the entire poopulation to consider?

Shucks - probably no one can donate who has our illnesses - oh well -

You guys are so funny!

"This is 2010, not 1910. We can do better than fecal transplantation," Dr. Gerding said.

Even so, there is "no question that [fecal transplantation] results are impressive even without controlled, randomized, and blinded trials," he said.

So, it's okay for these docs to do this and claim success, even though there have been no randomized, blinded, control trials?

Is talking out of both sides of your mouth genetic or is it a learned skill?
