Hi,

I think I had Bart for a looonng time (over ten years) and feel like I have raging symptoms: calves, soles of my feet on fire, brain irritable... I think I am flooded with the litte beasts

my llmd prescribed Zithro 600 mg to take on empty stomach

I am on mino and Bactrim DS already

afraid of seizure or other bad brain Herx and nerve/brain damage from neurotoxins / die off of bacteria when I throw in the Zithro

what would you take for detox? do you think just taking the abx is ok/safe?

I could take Burbur, Parsely, Neurotin as prescribed by another doc but very unsure of the Neurotin: it is supposed to prevent seizures so maybe that would be important but the mechanism is unknown and it may cause more problems

I really need to start the Zithro but am scared of effects - please help!

(my llmd office did not respond to my questions - I can try to call them again but may not get an answer again - I could find another doc but I have looked around for months already and need to stick with someone and start treatment now - it seems like no office is perfect)

Do you have concerns of seizure from Zith based on your reaction to prior use of Zith or a similar ABX? Or do you have a condition which exacerbates the chance of a Zith-related seizure? If so, you might want to push the follow up with the LLMD.

Otherwise I do not think you should expect your LLMD to reassure you when, after you have accepted a prescription for a common dose of a common medication, you are scared to take the first dose. If you do, then even the best LLMDs ever will trouble you. (As you will trouble them.)

I have not seen mention of Zith-related seizures on this board. You might want to use the search feature and see. I am no doctor; all I can share is experience:

I have taken a lot of it in battles with Bb, Babs and Bart over the last three years. Zith never seemed to do much - neither good nor bad.

Whatever you decide to do, using caution and detoxing are both good practices in general with treatment.

I hope you feel better.

Should have mentioned:

I understand your fear. I have been there. And I still am. I just look to remain rational - which I admit could be considered irrational in the case of an irrational disease.

When I shared the approach I take when I have such fear, I think I came across a little harsh. I apologize. I am harsh when I talk to me.

I will have to deal with the fear this afternoon when I mix up the first dose of a new-for-me antibiotic. But I have read up on it in general, and on LymeNet too.

I hope it helps me feel better. And I hope you find your it too.

enjoy the day.

Anytime I start a new med or a new combo, I get a little wierded out. With all the warnings they give you with one medication - it is enough to go into a tail spin.

The key for me is to try to be reasonable with myself and after I have researched, go for it.

With Lyme such an unknown I think, makes the whole thing harder.

Harmony,

In order for you to get good replies, we really need more detail before formulating any suggestions.

It's not clear if you have ever had a seizure. So, going back to questions by jmb:
--------

PRIOR REACTION? Do you have concerns of seizure from Zith based on your reaction to prior use of Zith or a similar ABX?

DIAGNOSIS, HISTORY? Or do you have a condition which exacerbates the chance of a Zith-related seizure?

STARTLE REACTION? Is that normal for ears, vision and touch?

BALANCE? Is that fairly normal?

HEART RHYTHM? Normal? Do any meds or OTC products change that?

Are you on a GLUTEN-FREE diet?

Is your BLOOD GLUCOSE fairly stable, and do you eat frequent moderate meals with only whole foods?

And, also:

If you do deal with seizure activity - or any degree of myoclonus - are you on any anti-seizure protocol - either Rx or supplements, or both?

(You spoke some about Neurontin but it's not clear if you are prescribed that and, if so, for which specific diagnosis.)

FAKE FOOD INTAKE? Do you avoid even a trace of Aspartame - or MSG (Google for all the names the both hide under.) Both, whatever they're called, are very neuro-toxic and can lower the seizure threshold.

ACETAMINOPHEN? As that can block the production of glutathione in the liver, it can make seizures worse if related to liver stress. Glutathione is crucial to the liver being able to process waste products.

What is your daily dose of

MAGNESIUM?

CALCIUM?

FISH OIL?

Are you taking:

LIVER SUPPORT Supplements?

ADRENAL SUPPORT Supplements?
