Has anyone had this happen? It is happening to me. Can this be turned around or will I always now be allergic to the foods that have turned into an immediate allergic reaction? A few examples are I use to only test positive for delayed allergic reactions with eggs, wheat, oats and now they are showing up on IgE too. Would like to know if anyone else has had this happen and it went away when leaky gut healed.

I'm studying a lot about allergies now, and from what I'm reading most allergies can be cured when you heal the gut.
I've recently read a booklet about allergies, and the booklet was saying that ANY delayed reaction can turn into an immediate reaction. Not only that, but at any time a mild reaction can become anaphylactic, especially if you are exposed to the allergen in high amounts for a long period of time.

---------- Apart from the joke, everyone with lyme, I think, suffers from allergy and sensititivities.
Infection in the gut (borrelia and coinfections love your gut, and so do parasites) will create leaky gut (or make your gut barrier less efficient), so macromolecules (bacteria, semi digested foods that are not supposed to cross into your blood stream) will cross and cause an immune reaction...
...and things like wheat get extremely difficult to digest (wheat is difficult to digest even for the healthiest people). Or milk.
According to most literature, wheat and milk are the two permanent allergies, very difficult to reverse.
The rest can be reversed with proper treatments.

You girls are so mean!
Brussels (or others) - If one is allergic to casein, do you think they can still have whey protein supplements? I've read that whey protein is good for healing leaky gut, and that it doesn't contain casein.

OK- my 8 yo was just dx with Lyme- they are debating if he even got it gestationally from me= he has horrible allergies- Peanut- severely anaphylactic- plus lots of airborne, etc- if I understand this post correctly there could be a lyme link? Why? B/c Lyme suppresses the immune system?

My 9 yo also has lyme and food allergies. Her food allergies began as delayed reaction but most are now IGE (immediate reaction) too.
Our LLMD explaind it like this:
1.Lyme and co's negatively impact immune system.
2.Folks that have healthy immune system can tolerate mild food allergies. they are either delayed reaction allergies or symptoms are mild because a healthy immune system can surpress these reactions.
3. When immune sys is compromised due to lyme and co, it can no longer surpress mild food allergy reactions. Thus, our body can no longer tolerate foods to which we once had only a mild allergy.
Not sure if i explained that very well.
Our LLMD is working to heal Daughter"s lyme through immune system modulation. In other words, we totally eliminate all foods that she shows either IGG or IGE reaction. This helps strengthen her immune system. We give her several immune boosting supplements (large dose probiotics, large dose evening primrose oil, reishi mushrooms, pregnenalone etc)
We are treating for parasites (parastroy) as well as Buhners herbs for her lyme. It seems to be working well for her.
Once her lyme and parasites are under control we will continue to focus on supporting her immune system as well as healing her gut. LLMD predicts this will have a positive effect on many of her food allergies because a strong immune system and healthy gut will be able to tolerate/handle foods that it can not tolerate when it is compromised.
tickled- yes, food allergies can and do change. That has been the experience of our family. Currently, the list of food allergies is VERY long.
When I began treatment for lyme and bart, my taste for food completely changed. I can no longer stand to eat any kind of meat or sea food. I am not allergic to them, I just am sickened by the thought of eating them. It's not that I think eating animals is wrong, I just am grossed out by meat. this disease just messes with our bodies in all kinds of strange and unexplainable ways
