That's what my pharmacist said.

LLMD wants me on a regimen of Doxy, Zith, and Rifampin.

ralphi It seems your pharmacist is right. Here is one drug interaction site -
http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.php

My doctor has me on Rifampin and Minocycline. They do not seem to interact. (However, Rifampin is sure messing with my thyroid/TSH and Synthroid dose.)

Dkat, is it making you have to raise your dose, or lower it? I'm guessing you have to raise it.

I have Hashi's and also take thryoid replacement.

ralphi I've had to raise the dose. So far, it's still not up enough. Need at least one more month on Rifampin. It seems to be working well.

Make sure you're monitoring your thyroid levels.

I'm also on Zith and Rifampin and just added Doxy to replace Augmentin.

Never heard that Rif and Doxy could not be used together.

Thanks for the info, DKat. When I finally get on Rifampin (trying to get my body out of this crisis state first) I'll be sure to monitor my thyroid often.

Hi GMB, Rifampin and Doxy can be used together; it's just that the Rifampin makes the Doxy less effective.

From Caremark's drug interactions checker:

"Although an interaction is possible, these drugs could be used together. Rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane) may decrease the infection fighting actions of Doxycycline. Inform your prescriber you are taking Rifampin before you begin taking Doxycycline. (Last revised: 10/12/2001 2:22:00 PM)
"

They absolutely can be used togehter. Rifampin may just speed up the clearance of Doxy.

Rifampin lowers the effectiveness of several meds.. can Google for list....Some antibiotics, pain, valium. hormones and a bunch of others.

Also do not stop and start Rifampin.. If you start stay with it or next time you'll have to wait a long time between..... Also I did OK on 150/orange but not 300/red pill.

Just opinion
