We are about to purchase a FIR sauna for our 17 yo daughter with Lyme at the suggestion of her LLMD. We have researched, planned, prayed, and researched some more!! Now, have found a tent-like sauna that you can stick your head out of. It is approx 400 dollars vs the Costco one that is 1500 dollars and requires a dedicated outlet (translate--electrician charge on top of cost of sauna!!). What do you all think???? Is the extra cost worth it for a hemlock wood stationary sauna? Or is the more portable model sufficient??? Any experiences to share?? I am thinking that another advantage of the less expensive one is that you can sit in it with your head out, and that might be less claustrophobic. . . . But I don't want to miss out on any possible benefits from the bigger one. . .
Thanks in advance for any thoughts and opinions you are willing to share!

About five years ago I was making this same decision. I decided to try the cheap one first (especially since I have trouble breathing hot air) then maybe go for a nicer one.
I found the tent versions very cheap at ebay and I just purchased my second one - the first one is still usable but fairly worn out because I used it so much.
I love this sauna and it makes a huge difference in how I feel. I can use it for 45 minutes full blast up to five times per week. I typicall use it 2 or 3 times per week but rarely during the summer.

LOL - when my husband set my first one up he said "This is the cheapest piece of junk". A few months later he called it "the best thing we ever bought."
And it lasted SO long.

I LOVE MY SAUNA. I bought the one like mojo listed above, except mine came with a "hat" that you can attach which helps keep the heat in and you will REALLY sweat it out!! I paid about he same amount, under $200. It is money well spent. I sit it in front of the TV and it's very relaxing, so much that I look forward to it.
Good luck!

Does it make you lose weight (I can't afford to lose any more weight)?

I've never lost any weight doing FIR, but it's helping me vastly to recover.
I haven't been able to handle smells or touch materials. After 6 months of using a biomat, I could handle smells again.
Now after two months so far with the portable tent sauna, I'm slowly starting to be able to touch materials again without breaking out with hives. It totally can work for reducing chemical sensitivity.

The best money I have spent in all of my years treating lyme was on a dome sauna off of Amazon. Just wish I had done it earlier in the illness.

I ordered the portable tent sauna from Amazon yesterday, through the Amazon link here at LymeNet. Ta-da!
Mojo, you made me laugh ... trust me that my husband will say exactly the same thing about some 'portable piece of junk'. I'm so excited that the positive results made a believer of him.
Everyone's comments here have me so excited for this contraption to arrive next week!

The only time the sauna helps me lose weight is when I use it a LOT. Like if I need to go to a wedding I will use it four to five times that week for 45 minutes at full blast. My heartrate goes up and stays up for quite a while and the weight loss is not temporary.
It also ensures that I will feel well for that special occasion!
When my dr. recommends that someone get a sauna he also gives them my phone number! I swear I should start selling these things and get a commission~!

I bought a portable one that emits negative ions from a link that someone posted on this site. 199.00 delivered to your door. I don't have room for a large sauna much less a long one that you can lay down on because I don't want to be constantly putting it away. This fits perfect in the corner of a study/bedroom of mine and I love it. I take the chair out and fold a towel on the floor when I want my head in the sauna as a flap can cover the head hole. I wish I had bought mine sooner. It was the posters on this board that got my interest. http://www.nationalpoolwholesalers.com/catalog_order.asp?t=FIRPORTABLEPosts: 805 | From Utopia | Registered: Feb 2006
