So I may have experienced my first insane herx yesterday. I am on a-l byron white (going the natural route for now) and had to increase my drops yesterday. Well, about an hour later I felt like I was dying. I couldn't walk, I couldn't talk I was pale, shaking everything.

My parents saw me the way I was (they are not very knowledgable on what can happen with Lyme) and drove me to the ER immediately.

I barely remember getting there and was uncontrollably shaking but all my vitals were clear so they made me wait but I felt like I was dying, but at least I'd be in the er, right?

Of course I try explaining everything thats been going on but of course I am healthy and just taking up there time.

My symptoms had lessened while I was there but I feel all beat up today. I guess my question is, if this happens again just ride it out?? It was definitely worse being in the car and being wheeled around (I am very motion sensitive).

Has anyone had symptoms so bad they had to go to the er?? What kind of symptoms should I beware of??

...totally a newbie to all of this...but I guess I'm getting better at understanding what is going on...

unfortunately 98 percent of my er visits have been bad. they can't figure out what's wrong.

the only time i got attention was when my bp was 217 over 168 and then i got it real fast.

I am sorry you had such a horrible herx but at least what you are taking is helping.

I went to the ER because I had rapid heart beat, heart burn and pain in my TMJ joints radiating into my teeth. The doctor insisted my heart was not pumping blood properly and kept me in the hospital over night.

It turned out to be indigestion caused from Mepron and Zithro which I had just started the week before. I told the doctor (and everyone else) over and over to check side effects.

That was a very expensive episode of indigestion! I will never go to the ER again unless I know I am really going to die. But if you have good health insurance (or your parents), then you might as well ease your mind, but I don't think they have a clue about lyme so you will most likely be wasting time.

Such a tough call! But I think now that I've experienced a bad enough herx I can handle it better...also explained to the family not to panic and its just something I have to go through.

Guess we'll see what happens next time...

And YES super frustrating hearing from the doc "well, I don't know what this "brain fog" is this means nothing to me, and then you tell me you just feel out of it...that means nothing to me...maybe its hormonal or you just have anxiety..."

...oof. I get this is how western medicine is trained but wasn't fun to hear being thrown back in my face...

Motion sickness is also a symptom of lyme, adrenal insufficiency, etc. I take magnesium and my RBC magnesium (cellular magnesium test, from what I've been told) is high-normal, and still I get horribly motion sick.

No low blood sugar and have been eating regularly and very healthy.

Will try the magnesium route...

Thanks for the info!

IMO, ramping up to prevent such a bad herx should be considered. Start low with med and increase slowly.

I never got any help from ER. And herxing is not recognized there. But there may be times that ER is necessary. Hard to know when that is, as opposed to riding it out at home.

Some people get relief with Alkaseltzer gold during bad herx. Do search of archives for this.
