My blood smear from Fry Labs came back indicating Hemobartonella/Hemoplasma. After much reading it might be necessary to treat BLO (bart like organism) differently than Bartonella?

From what I have read Dr F. believes it to be a bacteria but treat like a parasite because it clings to the outside of red blood cells.

I believe he is now recommending a zith/mepron combo. I read Dr B. recommends Levaquin.

Been on a Rifampin/Doxy/Tindamax combo for a little over a month now. Wondering if I need to go in a different direction with the meds? My main symptom is neuropathy in both feet and upper back.

Also read where L-arginine feeds these bugs. High concentrations found in nuts, seeds, certain foods, etc. I eat lots of almonds, walnuts, etc. Looks like a low arginine diet is also required.

Any feedback or more info. is appreciated.

Thanks

Up, I'm interested in this too.
I've had neuropathy in both feet and hands for many years and lyme tx alone hasn't helped it a whole lot.
Very curious about bart/BLO tx options, as well as dietary advice for such things.
My bart test has never been pos. however, so many similar bugs that it may not be the variety I've been tested for.

Any one have any other info?

This topic is very misunderstood by many LLMD's.

I also tested positive by Fry smear for the hemobartonella. It is supposed to be more like a mycoplasma, not bartonella henselae or quintana. I spoke with the lab director and he confirmed that it was something different than bartonella, however he can not give out treatment options.

I've never really understood what the treatment is for this BLO. I know Rifampin is effective against mycoplasma, so it may be the right drug for this organism. I've also thought minocycline or doxy as they are effective too.

I wish we knew specifically how to treat, but I think they are still researching and learning.

Did you also test positive for the Protomyxozoa rheumatica? My understanding is that this is the organism that is lipid loving and biofilm-forming and a plant based diet is recommended.
