Just received news that I have a very significant current EBV infection. I had a very bad case of mono already when I was 14, almost 30 years sago.

So, I have two questions: I can't find much info on why a person would be reinfected with EBV. Can anyone point me to that info?

And also, I see here a number of people linking current EBV with a Lyme infection. Can you point me to some good info I could share with my ND and other medical folks? I know I am going to have to be my own advocate in this arena...

Thanks!

Its a virus, so it always will be in your body. Since you have Lyme now, it is impairing your immune system which probably reactivated the virus (thats the main reason we all have so many problems, is these things come back to life, once our immune is down).

I have EBV too. I take valtrex 3 times a day.

I have EBV as well and was told as the immune system recovers it will no longer be a problem.

So the LLMD has focused on the Lyme.

All the Best, MattH

Thanks everyone.

Here's the thing though. I don't have anyone who thinks I currently have an active Lyme infection, except my acupuncturist. I was hoping to find some sound evidence that this significant EBV infection might point to Lyme.

Can anyone point me to that info???

I'm still in the process of getting diagnosed. Or not.

Thanks!

I had been sick 20 some years ago, was hospitalized, and I had EBV, but they couldn't figure out anything else.

Last year I got sick again and the naturopath I went to do the EBV test, and it was positive/high. She didn't believe I had anything else. I focused on symptoms, as I had many symptoms that were not indicative of EBV.

It took awhile, but I found a doctor to listen and she treated me for lyme. She chose not to treat the EBV for the reasons stated above.

Here's some info that might help you: http://chronicfatigue.stanford.edu/

You really can't tell by symptoms if you are dealing with a chronic viral infection (such as EBV) or a chronic bacterial infection (such as Lyme). The symptoms are very similar.

You might want to also get tested for some of the other viruses mentioned on the website.

Best, Timaca

Thank you, Timaca.

With the EBV infection, they saw that with my bloodwork, so I am definitely dealing with that. I just also believe I may be dealing with Lyme on top of it...(which is not showing in bloodwork, except band 41 and increased RF)

Dr K said they often do not test for lyme until they do some preliminary treatments. Once they do the premils the lyme shows up.

My Western Blot is very inconclusive but my CD 57 was 59. However the symptoms clearly screamed lyme. So my llmd is treating for lyme first. Also I tested high in mercury with a dmps challenge but not a hair test. That was further evidence of the lyme.

Have you had a cd57?

Dr K and Dr M have a seven part series on youtube. If you have not had a chance to hear the whole thing I would give it a listen.

All the Best, MattH

Thank you. I did have a CD57 test, but have not seen the results yet. I will look for the YouTube series.

I was treated for high levels of EBV with LymPlus by Researched Nutuitionals for 18 months. Supposed to teach your body to become immune to EBV plus it has factors for lyme.

I started on one capsule of LymPlus for three months while my body adjusted to it and then took two for the duration of the 18 months.
