I am so hungry ALL of the time. It's not that I'm eating out of boredom or anything. I am hungry!!

I'm not craving anything specific. This is kind of a new thing for me. Does anyone else have insatiable hunger?

Could be due to parasites sharing your food and your body wanting more. Parasites/worms can be a huge problem as a co-infection of Lyme disease.

Google parasite symptoms and do a search on here for parasites. Als check the symptom list at Humaworm.

I have this at times & can't explain it. Typically I would slow down eating and try to lose weight during the summer. I feel that food & being heavier during the warmer weather really weighs me down.

Come September I really get hungry and try to fight. Come October & Halloween I cannot resist the sweets & then it spirals from down there. It gets to the point of insatiable.

I am suprised though that I also am able to hold back during the spring and summer and get back to normal.

I also try to stop eating at times, and after midnight I find that I cannot go to sleep. So rather than stay up all night, I dig in.

I had this the first time I was on doxycycline. I was prescribed this for 30 days and it was probably the last 7-10 days that the hunger kicked in. Yes, it is weird that all of a sudden your appetite awakens with ferocity. After the doxy, back on Flagyl and that was the end of the hunger. That was in June and I am back on doxy again but so far am not experiencing the unusual hunger.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that Lyme affects the HPA axis. This was one of my first symptoms. I would be starving for lunch, but wait, give it 3 minutes....hunger gone. I just saw my internal medicine MD yesterday for the first time since dx w/ Lyme 8 months ago. She told me it would probably take a long time for the whole HPA axis to right itself. For those of us with low body temps, that is also hypothalamus/pituitary as well.

Thanks koo, I do have the low body temp still, and have been on Doxy also, just got off it a few days ago to start Coartem and then Malarone and Omnicef
This could be a player or the player, thanks for posting :-) I'm going to google HPA axis.

Our daugher had this at the beginning. Her weight went from 68 to 88 in about 2 months. She just couldn't stop eating.

We attributed this to the babesia but in all honesty don't know the actual cause.

I agree with Lymetoo about the yeast. For the past few months, I kept craving carbs and sugars. I would eat a whole can of Pringles and/or a whole loaf of homemade bread at a time. (now I can say yuck at this prospect). My weight was skyrocketing and I had no idea what was causing these horrible, insatiable cravings. Luckily, my LLMD put me on Diflucan to prevent yeast while on abx. The Diflucan did the trick and stopped the cravings.

T9im, I have relapsed Babesia, just started back on treatment yesterday, could be Babs. Darn Babs!

Aperture, I have been staying away from carbs for the most part, but that doesn't mean anything since I've been on abx for 14 months. It could be hungry yeast. I have some Diflican and Nystatin, I'll give that a try, can't hurt.

Thanks for the replies :-)

I've noticed that when I was working outdoors more I ate less, except for the serious days when I came in and ate my body weight for supper.

When I'm stuck indoors, before I got sick again or after, I eat more and I am hungry more often. I think it is, at least in part, our bodies preparing for winter when we're not sweating.

Old man, my iPad won't let me type your name as one word, I like the name by the way.

I think you are right about the seasons changing. I certainly have not been doing any sweating up here on the frozen tundra. Lol. My body is probably wanting to put some weight on for the long winter.

I noticed my appetite actually increased as I started to feel better which has been a good sign. The more I ate healthy food the better I feel also.

Trying to shorten the response, otherwise it would be way too complex to write, and read.

When sick, the body tends to shut down non-vital systems. As it heals it can often kick back in and things get "normal" again.

If you are dealing with leaky gut (from yeast, antibiotics, etc) then the body will shut down the appetite to prevent "bad" food particles from passing through the gut lining into the blood stream.

If the gut is being repaired (usually taking L-Glutamine), it will come back on strong when ready.

Once you get the missing vitamins, minerals, elements, etc you need (that weren't absorbing previously), your appetite should return to normal.

Hope this helps some?

Thanks Tincup, that makes a lot of sense. I just hope this isn't my " new normal " appetite, because if it is I'm in trouble. Because I could eat a horse! Lol!

I agree about Doxy being a possibility. When I took it, I had increased appetite. I believe the "cycline" antibiotics can cause an increase in hunger.

RC,

I said the same thing as I was eating nearly 24/7. I got very concerned and finally told the doc what was happening.

That's when he explained that stuff to me and I've since researched it.

If that is the cause of your desire to eat, like it was with me and others I've seen, you will normal out. It may take weeks to level out, but it will do so.

It was funny.... I would eat one thing sometimes... like carrots for a whole week. Supposedly I needed something in the carrots and once I got enough, the desire for carrots just stopped.

I told the doc if it didn't stop soon I wouldn't be able to get through my door. It was weird!

[lol]

I wonder if it has anything to do with a low vitamin D level?

I am the same way - can reduce food intake in the summer but then I get ready to hibernate in the fall and winter.

I also have SAD (seasonal affected disorder) and my doc told me to make sure I was taking 5000 iu of vitamin D every day to try and counteract my SAD symptoms. Maybe that would help you too?

I had this problem that went away when I treated with antifungals such as nystatin. I am 5'5" and 135 and I would readily eat 2 entrees and appetizer and desert at a restaurant without thinking about it, and just barely feel full by then. Wait-staff were always very confused by this given how skinny I looked to them, where did the food all go and so on. Well, I guess the yeast/fungus were helping digest the food...

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts on this [Smile]

Sammi, I have been off Doxy for five days now, and I am still hungry, so I am starting to think it's not the doxy.

Tin cup, sorry about the space in you name, these iPads have a mind of their own! I hope this normals out, it is so crazy, it's like no matter how much I eat I can't even get full!

Thanks Mouse, I just had my D levels tested and I am within the normal range, I am supplementing. That is one department I am good in.

Michael, Wow! I thought I had a bad case of the hungries!! I have some Nystatin, I'm going to start back on it now I have ended the round of Coartem.
