DS, 12, on Minocin and Rifampin is having a horrible herx. He has back pain, joint cracking, rib pain, and a new one--EYE PAIN. I gave him Benadryl tonight and we try to detoxify as much as possible which is hard when taking the medicines at such awkward times. What can be done for eye pain???
He is also very depressed. Know this is a herx, but am wiped out from trying to support him. What can help there as well???????

We're all different in our responses to treatment, but what stops all my Lyme eye symptoms, including eye pain, is drinking mangosteen juice,
an anti-inflammatory antioxidant juice - it scarfs up free radicals created by inflammation. I drink 1/2 ounce in the am and pm.
It's found in healthfood stores and online. I like the Ultra version from Trace Minerals. If your son tries it, go slowly, as it can be powerful, and drink water too. And if it works, let us know!
Question - if he's having that much of a herx, is it possible he's taking too high a med dosage? You will need to check in with the doctor.
It takes a lot of patience to get through this - the trick is to find what works and how much to do. The goal of feeling better and getting one's health back is worth it!
I think there is a yahoo parents group - anyone know the url for it?

PLEASE have him get his eyes checked out pronto by an eye care professional just to make sure there is nothing going on with his eyes.
DH is an eye doctor.
I had him check my eyes the minute I was diagnosed due to the occurrence of temporal arteritis, vitritis and other inflammatory changes that Lyme can cause in your eyes.
I was negative for changes.
Hope everything settles down for your son.
It does get better.

Btw, as Nemo suggested, just prior to starting the mangosteen juice, I did have my eyes checked out by a neuro-opthalmologist and he could find nothing wrong.
