I have been having alot of pain on my right side starting at the bottom of my ribs at my back and all down my right side. I am going to the doctor soon, and I am thinking of ordering a comprehensive metabolic panel off direct labs cause it's cheaper. Anyone experience pain like this?

yes I have considered gallbladder, I am taking 175 mg milk thistle a day. I don't know if that dose is high enough though?

Is a comprehensive metabolic panel the right test to check to see if you have liver problems?

I just had the comprehensive metabolic panel done and I should get it back in 1-2 days.

Hopefully everything is ok. I'll probably schedule a doctor app. soon too even though the pain has subsided somewhat.

The weird thing is I have had a pressure in my side that started when I fell ill with lyme, and this pressure has been off and on ever since.

Just recently this pressure turned into pain, so maybe it's lyme related

Gigimac,

Are you on Antibiotics? I had a similar pain. Got my enzymes tested and had to stay off the abx for about a month. Got the enzymes down with milk thisle and Castor Oil packs. I think the Castor Oil did the most work.

Just switch today from minocycline to doxy and the pain is very mild but has returned. I will probably do a castor oil pack tonight.

All the Best, MattH

Matt H, Yes I am on doxycycline. How much milk thistle do you take? I take 175 mg a day, not sure if that's enough.

Gigimac,

I take that amount twice a day. I buy the 21st Century brand from Iherb and get 200 count bottle.

All the Best, MattH

Thanks Kramberry, both the AST and ALT are well within range. So I feel better about continuing with the doxycycline!

I have had liver/gallbladder pain for two years on and off. Some who have their gallbladders out find that lyme and other bacteria are in the tissue of the gallbladder.

I think that the bile could be thick too. Or maybe the inflammation and stuff messes up the sphyncter of oddi which runs between the gallbladder and the pancreas and stomach.

I also know that I had parasites in me at the beginning and after some parasitic treatments it felt better but the pain comes and goes still, just less intense. Always up next to the ribs where the gallbladder is.

All my tests for liver and gallbladder were normal-heptobiliary scans, mri's, sonograms, and blood levels normal. So I think there are lots of folks with this same pain. I think as the lyme etc is killed it gets better.

The things that have helped me are digestive enzymes, a change of diet to organic foods, acupuncture, castor oil packs, liquid tumeric-like Tumericforse by New Chapter or making a tea from ground tumeric, ginger teas, reiiki, Byron White's A-babs, A-Bart and A_L (I started them together and the pain got much better)

I am on mepron and so can't take milk thistle according to Dr. S's book. I think milk thistle helps.

I also think the chlorella I am taking or any binding agents (pectins for example) help bind up the bile and get it out are good for helping make the pain better.

My LLMD does not use cholestyramine but a friend of mine with URQ pain uses it and says it helps him alot. bind up the bile and take it away. He also uses apple pectin and psyllium. I think he also uses taurine to make the bile thinner. I haven't tried that yet.

I think you can keep taking the ABX, just try to detox more with some binders to bind up the bile and move it out.

I hope this helps.
Be well.

Bad news for me.. Right now llmd called me up to stop all my abx she said my liver enzymes are so high and doubled up!

I take my milk thistle twice a day in high dosage but still got bad results..

Maybe my liver support was not high enough because i take rifampim zith augmentin flagyl its just too hard for the liver to handle.
Will i spiral down due to this.

Thanks alot for the info. Igor's Mom!

I'm so sorry you have to stop your abx, Kramberry!

I hope you can get your liver enzymes down really soon and be able to resume treatment.

Do you mind me asking what your numbers were as far as the ast and alt?

An ultrasound maybe helpful. To be scheduled after fasting.

Ditto re: kidney evaluation! IVP...maybe.

Some lyme patients develop kidney stones...lime juice help?

No pun intended.

BTW...the liver recovers really fast when given a "time out" from processing all the meds.

My dad went into toxic hepatitis from 3 abxs. years ago post op.
