hi there:

Wondering if anyone can help me. My daughter is presently taking zithromycin and doxy (200 mgs daily). She is also taking probiotics and other supplements. She is extremely nauseaus all the time, especially after taking antibiotics and has been throwing up. She has tried ginger capsules which have failed to work. Any other suggestions.

You can see if your doctor will give her prescription phenergan or any antiemetic (anti-vomiting) drug as a suppository. I tried doxy with those and still had such bad nausea I gave up taking it,
the nausea made it impossible for me to work or care for my family at all.
I was then moved over to minocycline which I could tolerate for several months.

ugg, this was my first symptom ( and what happens when I stop abx for more than a week).

you can try phenegran or compazine, though, be forwarned that these can cause some people to have severe anxiety/panic attacks while simultaneously being sleepy. If that happens, the only thing you can do is take attivan and benedryl. Or, if tha panic is that bad, you have to wait it out for 8 hours.

zofran is generic now, and is what they give cancer patients.

doxy is infamous for causing nausea and vomitting, so if it is that causing the problem, then the zofran should really help. Or you could ask the doctor if there is another abx she can take which is less likely to cause that problem.

If the reason for the nausea is due to irritation of the vegas nerve, gaba supplements or something stronger (like klonopin) may help.

Amanda,

Nausea has been hubby's number one symptom for over 11 years now. For him we think it is primarily babesia related. Currently if he stops babesia meds the nausea and dry heaves get worse and progress to vomiting within a couple of days.

His nausea gets worse the higher his bilirubin number is even when it is still in the normal range. So liver support helps the most overall for him.

Zofran usually makes neuro symptms worse for him. He is on oral phenergan and has been on that for about a year just to try to tolerate babs treatment.

Good luck.

Zofran worked really well for me for about a month, then stopped working. Phenergan is what I take now, though it makes me sleepy.

sipping ginger ale mixed with orange juice (half of each) seems to help mine, though I don't like to ingest so much sugar. Sea Band also makes a ginger gum, which you can find in pharmacies.

Depending on how long you've been treating, it might help to take a little vacation for a few days and work on supporting her gut with plenty of probiotics. Def. ask your doc before you do this, though.

Try raw ginger. Works for me when capsules don't.
