when reusing a vein I guess you are supposed to go up higher than the last insertion. Does anyone know why? My nurse is not very experienced at IV's it seems, and the veins are less visible the higher we go up.

sidenote: she stuck 4 times yesterday unsuccessfuly!

Becauze the vein is more likey to leak and blow. Its not about seeing veins, its abouy how they feel

I only give them twice and then call and talk to a supervisor. I always say I know my veins are a challenge, blah blah, and please send out someone who is an expert (aka someone who knows what they are doing)

It is not necessary to be a practice orange.

should be done by an interventiol radiologist in a hospital w/X-ray for proper insertion placement.

The nurse thing is horrible torture & cruel, even dangerous.

aargh! missed attempt number 5. I took cats advice and called in for someone else. Ive already missed a few doses over this, and really hope it doest affect the treatment. I only have a week and a half left and this stuff wasnt cheap.

it is worth it to get someone out who can do it right than losing veins.

Mine are so scared. I had a nurse come out twice - one time from a different company -

I asked her walking in the door
"do you know how to put in a port needle??"
yes
two tries and I said goodbye.

I now know why she left the first company....

hang in there.

I'm sorry, I was assuming the I.V. line was a PICC line. Thought that's what is used. I had a midline put in by a nurse...was cruel. Would never do that again.

PICC line was insert by a radiologist & was a breeze.
