It was recommended that I take MagTab SR for magnesium...does anyone know how many MagTabs I should take to avoid tendon damage from Levaquin? I know with regular Magnesium it is recommended to take up to 1000 mg a day. What is the conversion for the slow release tabs? The doctor also said that with the MagTabs SR it doesn't matter when you take them in relation to the antibiotics...is that true? I know with the BioCitrate it needs to be 3 hours before or after..
Advise please !

Read what this website says--that it is important not to take mag (or calcium, iron, etc.) within 3 hours of taking levaquin as the mag will bind to the levaquin and render it less effective.
I don't think extended/sustained release magnesium should be taken with levaquin at all for this reason. If you do, your magnesium will definitely still be in your bloodstream when you take the levaquin. Take regular mag while taking levaquin. Take MagTab SR when not taking levaquin.
That is my advice to you. Don't want to waste your levaquin, your time, and your money on the med and the mag.

TF, once the magesium is in the bloodstream I was under the impression that it was absorbed and wouldn't "steal" absorption from other medications.
Thus the reason we just need to take it hours apart.

So now this thread has me really confused and concerned. I posted here awhile back about severe muscle pain.
I was on Bactrim, zithromax, augmentin, and mepron as well as Mag SR. It was recommended that I increase the mag to help with muscle pain, which I did.
I was taking two mag sr in the am and 2 in the pm. I took it several hrs after my abx, but it is Mag SR.
I am now on minocycline and rifampin and still doing the same with the magnesium. Now I'm concerned it may be interfering based on this thread.
