What about the Ester-C packets that you disolve?

If you want to take a lot, it's better not to take Ester C because of the fact that it is a calcium ascorbate.
Its about the forming of oxalate. Something to do with kidney stones.
Sodium ascorbate is a better choice.

'Now' even has the pharmaceutical grade.

An excellent choice for a daily intake is a chewable wafer with vitamin C (sodium ascorbate & ascorbic acid). Mixed fruit. 100% Natural.
By Natural Factors.

Very beneficial because by chewing a lot of vitamin C is immediately absorbed by the mucous membranes into the bloodstream.

Delicious also. [Big Grin]

Vitamin C is very important, however . . .

Be sure to rinse teeth (with a few good swish & spits) very well after chewing or drinking vitamin C. It can be very caustic to the tooth enamel.

Do not brush right away, wait awhile. Acids can soften enamel and they need some time to harden back up. Lots of good water, ongoing, helps.

I do not know how long to wait before brushing or if there is something that will balance the pH of the mouth after taking vitamin C.

Best to avoid an chewy (gummy bear) kind of vitamins as they can really cling to the teeth.

Whatever happened to buying plain old ascorbic acid, and buffering it yourself with Bob's Red Mill Aluminum-Free Baking Soda?

1/4 tsp of vitamin C to 1/8 tsp of baking soda gives you a neutralized, non-acidic 1.25 gram dose.

Since you can get 8 oz. of Thompsons Powdered Vitamin C from Swanson's for 4 bucks and change, and a bag of the baking soda is 1.50-ish it's the least expensive thing going and just as effective as anything else you can buy. --Unless you want bioflavonoids, but those can be bought/taken separately.

I would say ester C as it has a high amount of bioflavonoids which are neccessary for absorption and availability of the vitamin. Don't wanna tinkle out all your C.

Again, the Ester C is calcium ascorbate, the calcium is no good, causes stones. Plus don't forget that it's calcium that causes plaque buildup in arteries.

And if that's not enough to keep you away from it, Ester C is pretty darn expensive.

If you don't want to pee the C right out and get it right into your bloodstream, use liposomal C. You can make it yourself with the ingredients in my prior post, plus some soy lecithin. Check the better health guy's blog. He's got a link to some recipes for making it. It's dirt cheap to make.

A few people have completely cured themselves of Lyme with vitamin C IVs alone. Since liposomal C yields 93-96% absorption into the bloodstream I would think that it could do the same thing. I herx when I take it.

Chaps I TOTALLY agree with you!! Avoid the Ester C ...it's nothing but SALES HYPE!

If you don't believe me read Linus Pauling's book: How To Feel Better and Live Longer!

ASCORBIC ACID is added to LOADS of the foods we eat! Your body will make a SPECIFIC Enzyme to break down WHAT EVER form of Vitamin C you take ... and since you are getting Ascorbic Acid in a lot of common foods, you can avoid "confusing" your digestion by sticking with an Ascorbic Acid supplement.

I have used SOLGAR HY-C (Ascorbic Acid with Bioflavonoids)for two decades! It is NEVER irritating to the stomach - not even when I have taken as much as TEN GRAMS per Day! (During rare periods of respiratory infection!)

And Pauling said (in the aforementioned book) that he and a colleague had cured INCURABLE Cancer patients with mega-doses of C! So I find credibility in Chaps' comments above, that it may be possible to cure Lyme with IV C!

Best luck to everyone - I'm off to buy some Hy-C (or Hy-Bio from Solgar, if they are out of it).
