Hi,

As part of treatment my doc put me on Valtrex 1,000 mg at night. I have been on it since 1/10/2012 and I am slowly gaining weight although I have not had any changes in diet or exercise. I am also experiencing some anxiety and mild depression which I had under control with 5-HTP. Before I send my doc an email, has anybody else experienced these side effects?

I went to www.askapatient.com and several people there posted about weight gain when starting Valtrex.

Thanks,
~k

My son has been on Valtrex for 1.5 years and I thought with no symptoms. After reading posts at the link, I wouldn't know what was a side effect of the drug and what was Lyme.

The problem with the site is that very few people with no issues post their experiences.

I hope someone comes along with more info.

Yeah, there are some limitations to getting information askapatient.com. I just can't stand the anxiety and depression which I normally don't have if I use progesterone and 5-HTP. This is new and the only thing I have added is Valtrex.

Be sure you are well supplied with electrolites and minerals, and fish derived vitamin A.

Viressence
Freeze Dried Garlic
Monolaurin
Olive Leaf Extract
Coconut Oil

all these are anti-viral and smart germ-killers without harming the helpful ones.

Take care.

Well this explain some things for me.

I had an active Viral Igm (not a surprise because of recurrent blisters on my leg)

I was only put on for 2 months...in those two months my weight seemed to be on the up side again.

Good to know.

Glad I am not the only one. I have a friend who is a nurse who said it can cause fluid retention - maybe that's part of the weight gain? I am not taking it tonight and will see if I can talk to the doc tomorrow.
