If Mepron causes severe depression and Malorone has mepron in it, so it's logical that Malorone would cause depression also, what do you do? My doctor has me hanging waiting for some alternative drug that must be cleared with some other doctor and then I need to travel two hours for an EKG before she says I can take it...I still don't know what it is. I emailed her about Artisminin (sp?) but no reply yet.
I can't drive due to failed knee replacement so I keep taking Cabs or else it would not be a big deal to get the EKG. But what do others do for Babs?
They don't prescribe Bactrim because they say that is the last line of defence if you ever get real sick and need antibiotics - this is real sick enough for me - house bound for going on two years now! Are people getting better on Artisminin alone?

P.S.........does anywone know if taking an antidepressant like Lexapro can counteract depression caused by a drug side effect?
They started me on Lexapro without really knowing if it helps when the depression is another drug's side effect - in hopes that I can continue Mepron after Lexapro kicks in (but I never believed that antidepressants really work anyway.) Maybe someone here got the Mepron Blues and found that an antidepressant helped???

Some alternative treatments for Babesia would be Larium, Coartem, or Clindamycin + quinine.
I personally do not believe that you can take enough artemisinin to adequately treat babesia.
There is a herbal Byron White formula that many say is helpful called A-Bab. That might also be something to talk with your doctor about.
Cryptolepis is another popular herb used to treat babesia but it is very difficult to find (on back order) right now.
Don't give up. You have options.
If you feel you really want to try Bactrim ask you doctor, remind them that it is prescribed routinely to prevent UTI's in people with urinary reflux and history of kidney infections. They take this med every day of their lives! Why can't you try it for a few months if that is what it takes for you to get better?

Also, if you are still struggling with depression, I would encourage you to seek treatment.
It would be hard to tell if your symptoms were caused directly from the Mepron or from the Babesia flaring/die off after taking the med.
I personally know several people that take Lexapro, it has helped them.
Just my friendly opinion.
