Hi All-

During my entire history of lyme, I've never had a headache...In fact, I've never really had one in my life...

For the past three days, I've had a headache that feels like a tightness around my whole head...it's kind of achey/sore behind my eyes..my forehead feels tight....I also have tight neck muscles...I don't think it's sinus as I don't have pressure in those areas...

I'm guessing this is either a tension headache or possibly from grinding my teeth....

Anyone know what type of headache this might be and anything I can do for it? Advil doesn't seem to touch it...

Thanks!

So if I read correctly, you have head 'pain', vs having a headache, no?

With the tight neck muscles, I'd be willing to bet you have a muscle spazm somewhere on the back of your skull.

Poke around with your knuckle. Find any REALLY sore spot you might not even have known you had? It may even feel like a lump. Muscle spazms send what is called referred pain to all kinds of fun places - up over your skull to behing your eye, or through your ear and down your jaw. Or down your neck into your shoulder. My fave was when the top of my skull felt like it had been bashed in with a hammer.

There's a few ways to get rid of muscle spazms, but I can tell you this - THEY DO NOT GO AWAY ON THEIR OWN. And things like Advil or pain killers do not help.

I've preached here about this till I'm blue in the face - so, PM me of you'd like more info.

I just got over (pretty much) those headaches and my llmd still does not know if they are lyme or bartonella. I'm up to 6 drops a day on A-Bart, but I am thinking I should have some idea by now if I had Bart. I ended up in the ER because I was barfing due to headache pain. I must take hydrocortisone for a pituitary problem so I ended up on a higher dose of my meds which kept down the inflammation of the vessels in my head. After several weeks of hell, I was able to taper off them (the high dose)and I know they are most definitely NOT recommended, but I was out of options. I cannnot take anything but Acetominophen and that alone did not do the trick. If you have insurance, go to the ER and barf on people, maybe they will take your pain seriously. Even Zofran and Fenergan were not working due to so much pain. I hope you are better soon. The headaches are the worst!!!!!

This one has a good explanation of referred pain and a good graphic showing where the pain shows up.

I have found trigger point injections of lidocaine to be the quickest most effective treatment.

Bugg,
Are you taking magnesium? You might need to increase it.

Low magnesium can cause muscle spasms and teeth grinding.
A dentist in France discovered that all his TMJ patients got better when they took magnesium.
