As I said the other day. I am doing pretty good. Most of my issues are gone. The only thing that is still there very mild pain. Not sure if it is comming for the nervers or some musles. I go days without them and then might get them for a few days but only for a very short time. Like under 5 minutes a day or less.
My LLMD took me off the doxy and bactrium and put me on Flagyl. Told me start with 1/3 of the dose and work my way up. He said Flagyl can hit you hard.
So I did. Never felt a strong herx. Actually never felt anything.
On the next appt I told him issues where still there and that I had no reactions from flagyl. He then added Bactrim to the Flagyl. Still no herx.
I am not sure if the mild pain us getting better or not. I feel like it is but not sure...My LLMD things I have a small ammount of bugs left but I am starting to wonder if it is just damage from the lyme that was there before and not from an active infection.

I don't have any reaction on Flagyl I think its kinda over blown that you should have crazy here reactions to things. I will have symptoms and some changes with meds (like more tired, more head aches..).
I think if your body is efficient, your working on detox, then you don't have to have cray herxes. i'd keep treating-- you'll never be sorry you did. :-)

It's an understatement to say everyone is different. You say you are doing pretty well....how long have you been on treatment? Is this your first time on Flagyl? My first med was azithromycin for 60 days. After that I got put on Flagyl 500 mg bid. I thought I was going to die. I didn't skip my next dose. The horrible herx probably lasted 12 hours. I remember two days later feeling awesome!.
I have been on Flagyl many times since and have never had that reaction again. I was also undiagnosed for 38 years so I probably had a lot of Lyme in cystic form which the Flagyl killed.
What I find helps with Flagyl is to do some weight lifting. In my opinion it stirs up the bacteria and then kills it hence causing a mild herx.

I've had undiagnosed Lyme for about 12 yrs. I've been on treatment since July. For almost 7 months, I've been taking:
Flagyl 250mg twice a day (500mg a day) Ceftin 500mg twice a day (1,000mg a day) Zithromax 500 mg a day
My doc wants me to switch out one of these (I can't remember which one) & begin to take Plaquenil instead. Plaquenil is an anti-malarial drug. I have not yet made the switch because you have to see an eye doctor first, to check your eyes, then go back & re-check after a few months to make sure the Plaquenil is not making you go blind!! (which is a side affect). SIGH...
So, anyway to answer your question regarding Flagyl, I've not had any awful side affects. I get diahhrea from all of it, but nothing else.
But, I also do NOT feel any better. I still get horrible sleep & my left hip still hurts.
But, you are taking TWICE as much Flagyl as I am. (I only weigh about 128 lbs, so that may be why).

If you don't react to Flagyl, your Lyme is gone or in remission, IMO. Residual pain may be from a coinfection.
That's my best guess.

Some people herx and some don't. I do but my husband really doesn't. He only feels a few bumps in the road. According to my LLMD, on rare occasions, some people don't go herx badly.

In the fall my llmd put me on Tindamax just to see what would happen. In the past I herxed so hard on it that he was very hesitant to put me on it.
This time no herx and at my appointment one month later he said to stop taking it. No herx meant I had a very minimal infection load.
You may not need a cyst buster at this point. I think when you reach this level herbs become more effective at killing the bugs.

I don't know...I stopped antibiotics in June because I just had lingering muscle pain/a bit of joint pain (only in a couple spots though) left.
I hadn't had a herx in 4 months (but I might have been on the same antibiotic that whole time??) and I definitely had not had a STRONG herx in a while.
I'm pretty sure there was at least 1 med change where I had no herx.
Anyway, I went off antibiotics and starting backsliding instantly.
But because I'd convinced myself the Lyme was in remission, I waited 6 months to go back on treatment.
(Maybe I'm just brilliant and subconsciously mimicking Dr. B?)
Anyway, I am back on antibiotics and getting better. My LLND does not want me stop until I am ACTUALLY 100% better, and I agree.
It might be that you have little or no CYSTS and your body is able to handle the die-off from Flagyl.
Doesn't mean you have no Lyme
Did you have pain before?
You COULD go off antibiotics and see what happens- as long as you do so with the intention to go right back on if you backslide, and don't wait 6 months like I did.

P.S. Are you taking grapefruit seed extract? I've been taking it consistently, and it makes my Flagyl herxes much less strong, as it kills of cysts as well

Same here. When I had the car accident my babesia exsploded and I was in IV in hospital than because I have clostridium difficile they put me only 2 weeks in flagyl b/c of it.But I knew that was good for the cyst buster. What I did wrong is that I stoped all antibiotics as I wanted ot treat babs. Was so sick and let myself with no treatment. The relapse was fully and almost died in December. So from April to december.Than resumed meds in February.Almost over 6 months. I should had not stoped the treatment.I backslided. Now I know I should not have stopped the treatment. But one thing I knew I could live without antibiotics only after 2 years and 1/2 but before I was so sick is no way I could live without taking them daily.I was very severe and was backsliding daily and in for antibiotics and tons of herbs.I was sick for very very long before I learned about lyme. I had it and got bit again here in USA so I got both strains.European and Usa strain. So please do treat all infections and continue until you feel symtoms free.

I never herxed on any abxs, so I would not assume that no herx means no benefit.
I took flagyl for months, but plateaued at about 80%. Recent studies show tindamax is the best abx for all forms of LD. I paired it with cipro, which is supposed to help shuttle other abxs into the cells where they can attack the TBDs. Helped to get rid of my lingering symptoms.
Also, some lingering aches and pains can be due to chronic muscle damage due to TBDs. Trigger point massage therapy helped me a lot.

I suffered in Flagyl myself in the begining.Even Plaquinil worked.
That means your load is not too high and the coinfections are making you more sick rather than lyme itself.

Tindamax really made me feel well after 1 two - week pulse. I feel like I gained a good 5%. There was small amount of herxing, but the benefits made the pain seem miniscule. I am doing well. look forward to my next pulse.
