I've even seen it in old people after they have mono, they suddenly have OCD. I've seen a lot of it after Lyme disease now, too."
I find this whole debacle another example of how we put a name on something like Conversion Disorder, instead of getting at the "real" cause. I feel for these kids and their community, and am so glad they are getting support from environmentalists like Erin Brockovich and the medical community who believe in a possible infectious basis.

"I just can't imagine that it's conversion or mass hysteria; that diagnosis doesn't mean much. It's a name people stick on things when they don't understand what's going on. Some psychiatrists like these names, thinking if you give something a name it sometimes helps people, but I find it just confuses the issue.
This case really forces the issue. Whether it's the toxins or PANDAS or whatever, I think we will learn a lot from it."

The pathetic side to this malady is the way the government is trying to cover it up as a mental disorder. It reminds me so much of Lyme.
Having just found out about the MRHFR mutation which makes detoxing difficult and puts people at risk of developing problems from environmental hazards, I wonder if these kids have it.
40% of the population has one mutation. Then there are those that are more seriously affected with double genes. It would make sense that the spill in that community affected them more than most people because they cannot detox the stuff. It is strange though that they are all getting sick at the same time. Something is happening.

i know - this whole thing is freaking me out. my grandson is 22 and grew up and went to school close to there. many yrs ago i subbed there...he was txed for lyme at 6 and 7 yrs and is in college now with no major stuff wrong...but it just makes you wonder and be greatful...those poor kids and their families
so much is just not fair

The article mentioned that they may need 3-6 wks of antibiotics. Should be interesting to see what happens with that!
Also mentioned steroids. Hope they don't go there!!

I feel for the girls and their families but I am so glad this issue is getting so much attention and publicity. Hopefully it will help many others.

Dr. Trifietti, a leading MD in regard to PANS, formally known as PANDAS, just released his statement after examining and testing 8 of the Leroy girls:
5 of the 8 girls have strep infection 7 of the 8 girls have Myco. P All 8 of the 8 have one of the infections listed above.
'mass hysteria' could not be (IMO) a more sexist and completely negligent original diagnosis.
