I have been treating with antibiotics since July 2011 for Lyme/Bartonella. I got very sick, very quickly following a tick bite in July of 2011, numbness/tingling/severe nerve pain, etc.
I started with Amox, switched to Doxy, and started heavily treating in September with Azithro, Cipro, Omnicef.
I'm very close to 100% back to normal, thank God, but my doctor wants me to add Flagyl. I've tried, but digestively I'm struggling with this one.
How do I know if I'm just herxing or if it's just all the meds?
How long and what number of antibiotics worked for you?
Again, I am lucky that I wasn't sick for a very long time and caught it soon. So when is it safe to go off meds?

- Glad to hear you got prompt treatment and that you are doing well.
Treatment is often best continued two months past the absence of symptoms. Then, many find at least a full year or two on a strong herbal protocol helps secure their remission.
Two main things:
1. Cyst form of lyme needs Flagyl
2. Were you assessed for other tick-borne infections (babesia, bartonella, ehrlichia)?
Just talking about the first one:
Antibiotics do not address all forms of the borrellia spirochetes.
If you have never been on Flagyl, it may be necessary, indeed, to address the cyst form of lyme.
You do not mention Grapefruit Seed Extract or other things that might help open up the lyme cysts.
So, I assume that up to now, that part of treatment has not yet occurred. It is important in order for you to have the best chance at as solid and long remission as possible. -

- Backing up, I missed the part where you wrote that you have tried but your
- Stomach Can't Handle Flagyl -
What I've read is that for those with lyme, flagyl clobbers them. If lyme is not in the picture they do fine with it. It sounds like you stirred up lyme with the flagyl.
I hope others will be by with suggestions or alternatives. Hold on. There is always a way. Always.
TINDAMAX might be an option. Not exactly the same but close.
Grapefruit Seed Extract (but that can also be rough on the stomach)
Might you be able to coat your stomach first with slippery elm? I am not sure but it's something to ask about. -

Thanks for the info. I'm talking to my LLMD tomorrow and I'll ask about the herbals and tindamax.
The only other co-infection was Bartonella.
