I agree with derk. It's the one(s) I have. It feels like I'm slowly losing the ability to use my brain.
Also, like the park ranger in UOS said, my ability to multi-task is gone. I can barely concentrate on one thing if I try really, really hard.
I used to have a photographic memory. Now, I cannot remember what was said one second ago.
Before beginning Lyme treatment, I remember lying in bed, completely exhausted, my little son was talking to me and I could not get my brain to work for the life of me.
I could not figure out how to get out a sentence. Horrifying!

Both viral and bacterial infections can cause bad brain fog.
Both antibiotics and antivirals have helped my brain fog a lot. I used to have difficulty following conversations in English. Now I'm trying to learn a foreign language!

Bart caused it so bad for me that I didn't know if I was supposed to stop or go at a traffic light. Also couldn't do math or read and comprehend.
I got it from Lyme too, just couldn't focus, and had a hard time with conversation, among other things.
It went away eventually. It took about 8 months of aggressive treatment for me.

Babesia was the big source of brain fog for me. The lyme itself generated much milder fog.

wow-thanks everyone. Terrible that you all can relate to the horrible brain fog. Me too-I stutter, try to find the right word, can't really comprehend what I read, feel like I'm under general anesthetic (the part just before you go under), a lot of confusion, etc.
I'm glad it went away with tretment for some of you, I guess time will only tell. Thanks everyone and may your brain start to clear and we start to feel human again.

Quite often forget what I was doing with if even the slightest interruption.
What gets me is sometimes I can see the word in my head, like "suspicious" or "ketchup", just can't make my mouth form the words. At one time I was having the same type of problems with my right arm. I would try to pick up a glass of water and sometimes it wouldn't work at all, sometimes I would get as far as my hand around the cup and couldn't make it grasp. I could ball up a fist, pick up something heavy or at least not fragile, but fine motor control required not to bend a plastic cup when grasping it was completely gone.
