Can Lyme Disease cause excessive thirst?? I have had lyme on and off for years. Ive had it recently, then ended treatment a few months ago. I now feel as if I have it again. I had that for some years, yes. Lyme can cause low ADH (anti-diuretic hormone), requiring more water. It can also cause diabetes, or borderline diabetes, and excessive thirst is a symptom of that as well. I also wonder if there is a connection to having lots of heavy metals or other chemical poisons to detox, and having thirst, to help the body do the detox.

My friend had excessive thirst, and she craved ice (different from what you describe). She worried about not getting enough water to the extent that she wouldn't go shopping if she didn't know if there was a water fountain available, or a place to buy water nearby. She ended up having a benign tumor in her brain that was causing it.

I have similar issues and my LLMD tested my anti-diuretic hormone levels. They were super low, so he put me on Desmopressin. He said that the Lyme causes this...basically when you drink, the water isn't properly absorbed and just goes out in your pee. Basically, if your levels are low, you will just pee the more you drink, and it doesn't hydrate you. Do you have dry eyes as well?

I had that too, in the beginning. Gone after a few years of treatment. Have your anti-diuretic hormone tested.

Dr. K says it is a combo of lyme and mold (of which most of us here have issues).
Important to add electrolytes to your water (Selectrolytes is a good brand). Coconut water is good also as it naturally contains electrolytes. Just be careful not to overdue it on the sugar.
Desmopressin hasn't helped me as much as I was hoping. I'm still taking it though... a very low dose.

Desmopressin did not help me and I thought was making me feel weird so I stopped it. But yes, overconsuming water is not a good way to deal with it either. I've read you can end up flushing out the nutrients from your food and probiotics if you're not careful about limiting your water during those times. Seconding the coconut water and electrolytes.

It can be from Sjogren's syndrome, which is considered an autoimmune condition. I believe that it's often from the infections. If you have it, it can destroy your saliva and lacrimal (eye) glands over a long time. It can be serious, if that's what it is. Hope that it isn't.
