If you still have Lyme, this is going to happen. I'm wondering if you have treated aggressively enough. What has your treatment been like lately?

Things are never dull. After 3 fighting Lyme, 2 are in remission. Youngest is still sick, age 22. He has new diagnosed Chiari Malformation and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

Taking just cipro or any one lyme antibiotic at a time is not going to get rid of chronic lyme. It takes at least 2 meds being taken simultaneously. Otherwise, the lyme just changes into a form that the one med cannot touch.

Read and study the Burrascano Lyme Treatment Guidelines and you will see what good agressive lyme treatment looks like.

Read the section entitled "Combination Therapy" on page 12 to confirm what I said about needing 2 different types of lyme medications at the same time.

The Guidelines are found here:

http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf

Stiff neck and pains, etc. in the neck are classic lyme symptoms. When you treat with cipro alone, the lyme goes into cyst form which cannot be killed by cipro.

Then, when the lyme senses that the cipro is gone, it comes out of cyst form. That takes less than a week after the cipro is stopped. Then, it takes about 2-4 weeks for the lyme to be operating again full-force in your body.

That's why you had about 4 good weeks.

Get good lyme treatment and get rid of your disease. The doc is the key to getting rid of this disease. Can't emphasize that enough. Get yourself a really good lyme doctor.

Write to me if you want my recommendations.

Lyme loves the cartilage in joints. Cartilage has no blood vessels, so meds have a harder time getting in to these so-called "privileged locations."

Your neck has a joint, so your head can turn. We often hear about lyme in hip and knee joints, but any joint can be affected. My neck cracks too, when turning my head, with no meds. Likewise, the TMjoint in my jaw sounds crunchy, so loud that other people can hear it.

Gotta recomend what TF said, Louis. You'll likely need atleast 3 months of a combo therapy if you really want it to go away for Good.
And the doc should be very familiar with Lyme & aggressive in his/ her approach, and- I'd add- an ILADS member, preferably.

Common combos prescribed (not neccessarily for You) are Ceftin & Zithromax, Amoxicillun & Flagl, or Biaxin & Plaquenil.

Often, but not always, one is a cell wall "abx" & the other is an intracellular med. They work in different ways & attack (or make 'life' inhospitable) for the borrelia & it's cell-wall-deficient forms (L-form/ cyst).

You also have to modify your diet (avoid simple sugars & eat more hi-protein/ hi-fiber meals) as well as take the appropriate supplements that your particular symptoms might suggest would help.

Good luck!
