there's a lot of viruses going around now. I kn ow people(without lyme) who have been sick all winter. I dont think you should stop taking your meds because you have a cold,b ut maybe someone else can chime in.

I wouldn't stop taking the meds without checking with your doctor first. Unless you think you might be having a severe allergic response.

As far as stopping you Lyme meds, tricia, I would consult your Lyme doc, or the office nurse, but I suspect they'll say it's no reason to, which I'd agree with.

I'm not sure what "Lyme meds" you're on but I see no causitive relationship between the Lyme meds *I'm* familiar with & "bad cold" symptoms.

A major "downhill" change in the condition of your GI tract would be another situation altogether, though.
As would a dramatic rise in your liver enzyme #s.

It's a good idea to get your liver checked! When you ask the LLMD about stopping your meds also ask if you can get a blood test to check your liver/kidneys. When I was having SEVERE problems with my liver I kept getting sick alot. Believe or not the only reason I asked for a liver check was many people on here suggested to get it done every once in awhile. I think this test SAVED my life because I probably would have never of known it was my liver otherwise because my LLMD didn't say anything about getting a liver test. I'm the one who asked for it to be done. (=

I literally just got my liver checked on Weds. Everything was fine did my full workup CBC and CMP everything was A-OK.

Kete-TRacker. You mean my GI track could be making me sick.

I would advise to not stop your Lyme meds. Keep on supporting your immune system. You might try calling your doctor's office to see what they recommend.

Hope you feel better soon.

No no. I just meant that a common reason why folks back off on- or temporarily discontinue- antibiotic therapy is an intestinal bacteria imbalance, like when you get a yeast overgrowth or an overabundance of a problematic (GI tract) bacteria like "C. Difficile".

My doc added flucanazole (Diflucan) to my protocol after a couple of weeks. I took it every 5 days or so. It both weakens the Lyme bugs and helps keep yeast at bay. Helped me a bunch.
Others do well with Nystatin, which is taken more often due to it's shorter "1/2 life".

Of course, you need to be on some type of a Lyme diet (see Burrascano guidelines) to help keep your intestinal tract in check. No "ice cream & cookies", tricia, until you're better.
Zero. None. Period.

Tricia, both my husband and I have this terrible cold that is going around right now. You get rid of it and it comes back 3 weeks later! It sucks. All the sneezing and mucus again. My husband just missed another week of work out sick from it (his second time getting the cold).

I stayed on my meds and took lots of vitamin C and some zinc (noticed a difference). Zinc helps with the mucus. Unfortunately, now my cold has come back, and I'm sick of it. Hang in there and rest hard.

Take tons of vitamin C. Thousands of milligrams! Gargle with warm water and sea salt before bed.

Maybe when its getting a little better get an acupuncture appointment if you can. It will clear it out of your system and boost your immunity overall.

I wouldn't stop your lyme regimen.

My children's pediatrician said the lack of cold weather this winter has viruses spreading out of control. Practically no flu has been around....

Feel better!

Some people have said when we get virus' and cold's, we are on the mend. I don't think there is any science behind that. I have gotten sick with colds etc with lyme. It is like banging your toe when you have a broken leg - insult to injury, but do you take the cast off? Colds are caused by a virus which are not affected one way or the other by antibiotics.

Unless there is something wrong with your liver or kidneys there is no reason to quit treatment until you are symptom free for at least two months with a normal CD57.
