i have pcos and i take spironolactone and birth control pills and I think i have high testosterone or androgens and lower estrogen. i was told by my llmd that hormones feed the bugs we have, so i was thinking about going off my birth control pills and on to vitex alone or vitex with boidentical hormones. will vitex be enough to balance? or will i probably need some estrogen? and are biodenticals better for us then birth control pills for balancing our hormones? i get acne and facial hair growth so this is a concern for me as far as symptoms

birth control isn't a good option for balancing hormones unless you just happen to have the exact deficiencies that the pill happens to contain. Its better if you know what you're deficient in and treat that specifically.

bioidenticals didnt work for me-- although i think they're a good option. Vitex did the trick in 3 months what other hormonal treatments couldn't be in 3 years.

Hello. I too have PCOS due to high DHEA and androsteione and testosterone. My estrogen is low as well, it has been for many years now. I am 34 now and most docs don't know why it is low or care to find out. I have considered vitex as well, but have not tried it. Is your DHEA elevated? Mine is about 3 times the normal range.

Toxic metals hang on to the ligand sites of the hormone producing glands. Detoxing is what is necessary and getting the infection under control will be a lot easier. After you treat parasites, that is, because they are holding on to the toxic metals also.

Take care.

I didn't know anything about PCOS so I looked it up. Sorry you are suffering with this. I did take birth control due to bad menstrual cramps. I took them for a few years & they helped but I did gain weight - like almost 40 lbs... I'm glad I stopped. It didn't feel right for me to alter my body chemistry that much even though I only got my period 4 times a year (which was great).

In any case, I found this -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polycystic_ovary_syndrome

Seems it has to do with weight & other factors like insulin resistance. I read berberine & nicinamide may help with insulin resistance. Maybe it would help to try treating it from a different perspective?

*To help diagnose insulin resistance, check for elevated levels of total cholesterol and LDL triglycerides. Also order a glucose tolerance test from Meridian Valley.

*Treatment for insulin resistance: 1000 mg niacinamide, 500 mg berberine, along with a healthy diet. Biopure makes a tincture called Viressence which contains berberine

Hope this helps.

I should have added above: while you do the cleanup of toxins, Sparkle gave some excellent pointers.

Also Vitex seems to be a very easy balancer of hormones. It's easy to make or buy it very inexpensively in different forms and beats the expensive hormone cremes that don't always work either.

FirstChineseherbs carries it by the pound to make yourself.

Take care.

I think the toxins also make it much harder for the liver to do what it does naturally. The liver plays a big part in hormone balance, too. I wish I knew this 30 years ago...
