It's good they posted this article so people can know about the dangers of a tick bite. I didn't care for the way it was written, though... I didn't read the whole article.
I guess one can't imagine the dangers of things like this until it actually happens to you. So, starting off the article taking about the Loch Ness monster, Area 51 & the X-files sounds trite to me.
Just because this author hasn't done much research into alternate views of history or reality doesn't mean they don't exist - just like post-Lyme-syndrome.
I'm not saying that the Loch Ness monster, etc. are real but there are things that are real that may be beyond the imagination of most average people. Like I said - until one experiences it for themselves - one may not believe it... but it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. Thanks for posting it.

Sparkle: You need to read the whole article. She begins the article by saying she is usually a skeptic, and then does a 180 at the end. She GETS IT!

Yes, I do think she gets it. Faced with this kind of thing - we have to. It's really as serious as a heart attack - to pardon the expression. I guess that's why I didn't like the tone of using TV sci-fi metaphors. I guess this just makes the article a bit lighter & more appealing to some folks... It's a stylistic gesture.
I believe that we have to admit that this pathogen is possibly bio-engineered by a lab in order to really get to the bottom of why this illness is ridiculed, swept under the carpet & why there is so much controvercy. So, I guess I would "go where no man/woman has gone before" - LOL... I would bring out the big guns & say what has to be said rather than waiting for definitive proof & all of that.
If we keep waiting for authority figures to say that this monster was created in a lab & to admit about all the experimentation on humans with various pathogens - we will be waiting for a long time. This reason why I feel this is so important is that unless we look at Lyme like this, we will never really get a handle on it for treatment, as well as, the social & political issues of it.
Any publicity is good, though. If this article prevents one person from having their life ruined by this illness - it's a good thing. I guess this is why I felt that the article was a bit trite... But that's just me. I've been studying all of this for a long time.
Some people may disagree with me & that's OK.

I read it that she was originally a skeptic of alternative medicine which I think made it all the more compelling when she came around in the end.
I particularly liked the line about when they were faced with the decision of trying to find a cure vs doing nothing, they did what most people would do and went for the treatment.
