My 8 yr old son with lyme had to have rods removed from his leg. It has been a week since surgery.

He has a rash all up and down his leg and it is spreading to his other leg.

Is this lyme related?? He also says it itches alot.

At first I just thought it was from the bandages, but now thats the intire leg, it doesnt make sense to me.

Tell/call the Doctor, make sure it's not an infection.

You said the rash is spreading to his other leg, that sounds unusual. Surgery was a week ago. I would insist that he be seen by a competent doctor. If his surgeon is not concerned, can you take him to his pediatrician? If the pediatrician won't see him you may have to take him to the Children's hospital ER for evaluation.

It could be an allergy reaction to some type of cleanser or bandages. Does he have dressings that need changed? Is this a possibility? You could try benadryl.

Unless the Benadryl works miracles overnight, I would still be concerned and want him seen by a doctor tomorrow to rule out infection.

Also, check to make sure that he doesn't have any fevers. That would be a clear sign of infection. If he has a fever, go ahead and take him to the Children's ER. The doctors there would be able to run tests and administer needed medicines much more quickly than any doctor's office.

I'm allergic to surgical tape, but it caused burns not a rash.

Hope he's better by now.

I used the benadryl cream and it is clearing up very well. No he does not have any bandages on.

He did at first just around the knee.

I am thinking that it was maybe from whatever they scrubbed his leg with prior to surgery.

Thank you everyone for all th input.
