OK I have been treating lyme 2 years now and slowly but surely making progress. In January I started a new protocol for babesia and that is when I stopped moving forward and feel worse.
I started 1 tsp. mepron bid 200mg plaquenil bid and 250 zithromax bid. I am also supposed to be on 3000mg of amoxi, 1000 of flagyl (pulsed) another teaspoon of mepron bid, and probencid but my liver enzymes have been high and I felt really really bad after starting the mepron.
Since starting mepron my symptoms like head pressure facial flushing, spaciness, floaters and chills have flared but also I got new symtpoms like crackling in my ears and old symptoms back like the lump in my throat and numbness in my toes (which had been gone like a year).
I am having so much anxiety over this what is going on? Is it because I am not able to reach my full doses? I am about 100lbs and before this I was trying the clindamycin/quinine for 10 days and then biaxin plaquenil flagyl for 10 days. Is it a prolonged herx? Is mepron not working? Is it working? All I know is that I don't feel as good as I did before I started this protocol. It has been exactly 7 weeks.
My fear is having babesia and not treating it properly...before this my main symptoms that I was trying ot get rid of were facial flushing and head pressure and some spaciness floaters and chills. My llmd has always felt very sure I have babesia.
Anyone have any advice or encouragement? I am so worried to stay like this for life.

I am not at all surprised that you feel worse. Going on Mepron and attacking a different coinfection could certainly make you feel horrible.
All these symptoms you are feeling sound so familiar to mine when I went on Mepron. I remember worrying that I would feel that way forever. It also caused a depression which lifted once I was off of it.
I am no doctor, and maybe you will eventually increase your Mepron dose, but I was only ever on 1 tsp twice daily. Some people take a lot more. I think it depends on the doctor.
I haven't been on the plaquenil but I am pretty sure that can knock you off your feet as well.
It's good that you are on the Mepron and Zith. Are you detoxing? Are you on probiotics? Hang in there, I am sorry you are going through this. Sometimes I think the anxiety is the worst part. CB

Mepron works against Babs bacteria by oxidizing.
Taking supplements that are antioxidants will work against it, make it less effective.
Our cells continually make free radicals as a byproduct of energy production, and we need antioxidants to fix that. However, people who are taking Mepron for a while will have fewer than usual antioxidants for the cells to use.
Perhaps if you could stop the Mepron for a bit and take alot of antioxidants, you'd feel better.

I saw a thread a while ago where Dr. K. says in order to get rid of babs you have to get rid of the G.I. parasites.
Parasites/worms can play a MAJOR role in Lyme disease and is often an overlooked co-infection even by LLMDs. Do a search on here for parasites.
