I was in the ER last night with a severe allergy attack of some kind and could not breath. They gave me a shot of Dekaron(sp?) and a breathing treatment.

Has anyone had to have a single dose of steroids and did not have lyme flare after? I'd like to hear your stories!

Thanks!

I'm on malarone, zithromax and started tindimax last night to try to protect myself from a lyme problem. I'm thinking of adding biaxin in today. I have the added complication of a DVT from my PICC and the line is getting pulled today.

Blinkie, The same thing happened to me 3 1/2 years ago (allergies, ER, couldn't breath either). They gave me that dose, and also some prednesone pills for the next week.

I didn't know I had lyme at the time, but could only take the pills for about 5 days before I had a reaction to them and stopped.

Don't worry about that one dose. Just keep on going on the abx. I'm improving, so you will too (I wasn't even diagnosed for lyme until almost 3 years after that). I improved after about a year after my trip to the hospital, but was bit again after that.

Were you able to figure out what set you off?

You just do it, randi. Helps to be on abx at the time.

well, I think I was near remission so I don't want to backslide. And, I have a DVT blood clot on top of that. Lost my PICC line today. Two ER trips this week.

Yeah, I understand. I thought you were asking about a life emergency like with breathing.

blinkie, you may not backslide. Does your doc have you on orals now (after pulling pic line)?

I threw my back out really bad in November but this has also happened years ago before Lyme & company. Steroids was the only thing that cleared up the inflammation in the past and needed them for this pain. My LLMD said it was ok in small doses which was 1-2 predisone pills a day for a few days.

It worked out fine but stay on the abx.

catgirl, I was already on malarone and zithromax but when I got home from the hospital I added in biaxin and flagyl just to be safe.

Are you both certain that it was allergies????
Not Lyme related in some way??

I just went through it- only made it to Dr.'s office-

Possible "asthma"?? Put on oxygen for a while- did x-rays- EKG
Bp and pulse unstable the whole time...a few shooting pains-
Came out with a prescription for an inhaler [Wink]

My gut is telling me it's all related of course-

well, years ago, before my diagnosis, I had asthma. My asthma cleared up with proper lyme treatment so it is possible that they are related.

My trigger was latex (got bit by a tick a few mos before that). Was allergic to everything after I left the hospital. Ended back in the ER 3 more times before a doc finally told me my problem was environmental (he was partially right).

Blinkie, do you think you got bit again?

no, there's no way I got bit again. Haven't been out of the confines of the concrete jungle since diagnosis.
