Any ideas for PICC line care in Italy during a 2 week trip at the end of May?

Part of a college trip to small town in northern Italy and no car available.

Just starting to research so any ideas of where to start would be great.

Thanks!

You could take me with you! [Smile]

Ok, your easiest option would be to ask a friend or two to learn how to do the dressing changes for you.

They would need to observe your nurse once. Then try the dressing change and end cap change with the nurse guiding/instructing them. You may also want a 3rd visit to make sure that they fully understand and feel comfortable with the skills.

Hopefully you will have a good friend or a chaperone that is willing to step up to learn this for you.

Have fun!

yes and you may need a written auth from your Dr managing your PICC that this is ok. That depends on how your current PICC nurse is. I went to a hospital that was very strict. When I went out of town for a week, they made me find a hospital in the state I was at or they would not take me back once I arrived home. Liability if someone "unqualified" changed it.

Funny thing is...the nurse that changed my dressing while I was away was a joke. I could have done a better job one-handed! LOL!
