Several days ago I found a tick on my 11 yr old. It was attached, but upon removing it, it appeared dead. Our dogs are treated so I'm assuming it came in on them, attached to my son, but then died while still attached. I called my Ped and after some persuasion she agreed to treat him with a single dose of 200mg of Doxy. I am now concerned that he should have longer treatment. He is allergic to amoxicillin. He seems fine, with no symptoms, but knowing what I know now I am concerned. If a child is allergic to Amoxicillin what would be the best drug of choice?

to my knowledge, he is old enough for doxy, and that is the drug of choice. Yes, he should absolutely get more than a single-dose of doxy. There have been studies that such doses aren't effective.
The safest bet would be to get him on one month. Many pediatricians won't do this, so get all that you can. At least 2-3 weeks. People sometimes go to several doctors until they have enough.
Many people don't get symptoms at all, so don't go based on that.

I agree. Try to get and fight the doctors as best as possible. Go from doctor to doctor and try to obtain them.
It is so much easier to do it now, rather than to wait and have to go through so much unnecessary lifelong battles.
Another alternative is for you to order it online. Due a search on this site and take this opportunity while it is still early.

I can't find the dosing for children. In Dr' B's protocol all he says is Doxy is not for use in children or pregnant women. He talks aboput using amoxicillin which he cannot take.

Where do you live? Go to the "Find a Doctor" page and put up a post asking to find an LLMD in whatever State.
There are many pediatric LLMDs in NY & NJ but you'll have to find out who is near your area.

children have to be older than 8 years old for doxy, it is a tetracycline drug, and will stain any developing teeth, so you want to wait until they're all in.
I don't know dosing for kids, sorry. I just googled "child dose doxycycline" and found several sites that make suggestions.
I would recommend contacting a pediatric LLMD, even if you can't get into see them right away, all of them will recognize the significance of catching this early, and may give you early advice, though prob not a prescription.

Take him to CVS minute clinic. I believe they will treat a bite with 2 weeks of abx.

You need to get your son to a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD) a.s.a.p. Don't waste time with non Lyme-literate ones!! They have no clue about this horrible disease and its complex treatment!

I had a long talk with my ped and she stated her reasons for not treating at this time, which some of them I could understand. To treat every child that obtained a tick bite with a 6wk course of antibiotics would not be best either especially if they obtained numerous bites over the summer. Her advice was to monitor him closely and obtain a Western blot in 6 wks time. I spoke with my LLMD's office and they did not feel she was totally off base in her approach. The fact that she gave him a preventative dose and was willing to run a WB in 6 wks time was a plus. The simple fact that we actually know there was a bite so we will therefore be more hyper vigilant etc in regard to symptoms is a blessing according to them. He is 11, but does not have all his permanent teeth as of yet. His allergy to amoxicillin complicates things.

My daughter was given 250Mg of Bactrim DS and 250MG of Zithromax 2x/day. Both are of liquid form.
She too had developed rashes and an allergy two weeks into Amoxicillin and had to switch to the two mentioned above.
