I posted a few days back about having mastitis (have been symptom free for 2.5 years) and being given clindamycin. Got tingles all over from that and ob/gyn who prescribed it told me to stop, thought it was a reacation. Tingling went away.

Prescribed another antibiotic, but midwife in office suggested eating 3-5 cloves of raw garlic for the next 3 days since that could clear the mastitis and avoid having to take more antibiotics.

The garlic cleared the infection, but sent me into a complete tail-spin!!!!

I know it kills yeast (though I didn't think I had any).

I have horrible neuropathy/tingling/twitching all over, numbness in my face, weakness, chills, anxiety, moodiness, brain fog, exhaustion, metallic taste in my mouth.

What on earth could this be? I'll have to most likely wait to get into an llmd since I haven't been to one in a while. I have a pcp I can make an appt. with on Monday.

First, could this be some kind of allergy for you?

- going back, I see you did say: (have been symptom free for 2.5 years) -

Still, no matter how far along we may be, it's always best to start slowly, with just ONE clove, say with lunch - repeat for a few days before increasing to 2 x a day.

For the mastitis, or other acute reasons, the higher dose may have been more beneficial.

And, there's always the matter of stomach lining to consider. Not everyone can "do" raw garlic.

Allicin capsules that dissolve further down the GI tract can help in that case.

You don't mention stomach irritation but if that is a part of this: DGL, slippery elm gruel, marshmallow root - can help.

For context, for others as they prepare their replies, it helps to know that at a previous thread, you recently wrote:

"I haven't been around these parts in a while since I've been doing very well and in remission for almost two years now.

I am nursing my third baby, currently, and wound up with a mastitis infection. . . ." (end quote)

Congratulations on the new addition to your family AND for the remission.

This is fabulous. Even with this new tumble, I'll bet this gets better soon.

You might ask the midwife or a naturopathic doctor about SEAGATE OLIVE LEAF EXTRACT to help with the Mastitis.

As it's a food concentrate, it may be fine with nursing. Of course, medical folks should confirm that. It's just a thought. They may have something better in mind.

----------------

You might also want to consult your LLMD about this reaction to hear their thoughts - in case this has any borrelia herx possibility.

I sure hope it was just the garlic's kick. I know I'd feel awful were I to do 3 -5 cloves at once. I think that could affect a great number of folks similarly.

There is a new test out now, just in case you ever need it. It's much clearer than Western Blots:

Garlic works as anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-parasitical, anti-viral, and anti-metal!

Hormones changed with pregnancy and nursing.

The major component in my getting rid of Lyme Disease was freeze-dried organic garlic for a couple of years, followed by a lot more. But that was a major component of my treatment.

Your symptoms can be caused by any -- bacterial viral toxic metal etc. Viruses are at the deepest level and are the smallest and often appear last. That is my experience.

Yes, you need to take action to find the culprit or culprits.

All the best to you.

I've been registered here since I 1st began having problems with Lyme, but never posted often, just read for support during my treatment.

I know plenty about herxing and recall it well from when I was in treatment. This feels like one, but it's pretty intense and quite unsettling after having no symptoms for so long.

Thanks so much for the information. The mastitis is gone, thankfully.

I had no idea about the new test. Will be interested to look into it.

I plan on touching base with my llmd on Monday to see what I can find out. Thx.
