My guess is it is due to severe magnesium deficiency which is common in lyme patients.
Load up on magnesium and see if it doesn't get better. This is what it says in Burrascano that you are to do.
Perhaps whenever you are not attacking the lyme, it is depleting all of your magnesium.
There have been a few recent posts about this.

That's very interesting, because I've also had a lot of tendon issues since this all started... what are the best sources of magnesium?

"6. MAGNESIUM (required)
Magnesium supplementation is very helpful for the tremors, twitches, cramps, muscle soreness, heart skips and weakness. It may also help in energy level and cognition. The best source is magnesium L-lactate dehydrate (Mag-tab SR, sold by Niche Pharmaceuticals: 1-800-677-0355, and available at Wal-Mart). DO NOT rely on cal-mag, calcium plus magnesium combination tablets, as they are not well absorbed. Take at least one tablet twice daily. Higher doses increase the benefit and should be tried, but may cause diarrhea. In some cases, intramuscular or intravenous doses may be necessary." (page 28)

I have found that CALM, a powder magnesium supplement that goes into solution with boiling water works the best, as the body can put it to use right away.
Mineral pills tend to go through your body like a rock instead of being absorbed.
There is also a topical magnesium oil, DermaMag, that bypasses the intestinal tract completely, as it works by going directly through the skin.
Hope this helps!

So if I'm on treatment for lyme and having this issue and need the magnesium to control it then does that mean my treatment might not be working?

Ellen, lyme treatment takes time. Especially if you have had lyme for a while.
As long as you have lyme, you will need to supplement with magnesium.
If you have had lyme at least a year, expect treatment to take at least a year. The longer you have had lyme, the longer the treatment.

Actually I had that symptom too and I believe it is related to babesia. My magnesium levels were fine. Are you treating babesia?
I felt it in different ways. Sometimes it was a pulling sensation behind the knee like the tendons were going to snap. Then it would continue to hurt when I walked. Sometimes it was like bursitis in my shoulder and I could not use my arm.

So when I go back to my LLMD and tell her I am feeling so much better, due to the magnesium increase, how will she know whether or not to keep me on abx and for how long???

I've had this bothersome problem from the beginning. I've been off ABX for over a year now and still have tendonitis. It's just recently gotten worse again, but I don't have any other symptoms to indicate a relapse.
I'm going to increase mangnesium as suggested here, though my level was normal back in October.
