My daughter is being treated for Bart, with recent increase of Rifampin dose. I believe our doctor is on target with this treatment and we just had appt. a week ago.
Yesterday increased dose. She became very ill last night with out of this world eye pain, headache, and nausea. She ended throwing up twice during the night.
One of her consistent symptoms throughout this 1 1/2 year illness has been nausea, but has infrequently lead to vomiting. Recently, she has been throwing up about weekly, and then now the past two days.
Our doctor didn't seem so concerned. Her body is releasing stuff.
So, I am wondering if this seems like herxing, or if I should be concerned about drug reaction. Whether to call the doctor or ride it out.
It is so hard to sort out. Also, so hard to find something to feed her. Now, I am just letting her eat what she feels like, even though some gluten/starch foods.
This is a clinical diagnosis for Bart and her symptoms have increased with Rifampin.
Any advice or similar reactions?

What other meds is she on? I would double check for possible med interactions. Rifampin is one of those meds that interacts with lots of things -- causes some meds to have higher and others lower blood level concentrations.
Another issue would be potential liver stress.
Hubby just added rifampin back in for possible treatment of ehrlichia/anaplasma. He had taken it in the past with levaquin or factive for bartonella. But the combo of rifampin and doxycycline is really causing issues. It seems like it is the rifampin causing him to have fevers and he has also vomited 2 or 3 times the last 2 nights. He finished his 5 day antibiotic challenge yesterday so we are hopeful that today will be a better day for him.
I am not really sure why he had such a hard time with the rifampin and other meds this time around. He is having more bloodwork done on Friday.
As you said it is hard to sort everything out -- with hubby I think it is either the ehrlichia/anaplasma or babesia which is causing problems but can't tell which at this point.
In the past when hubby tried adding rifampin to his babesia meds we thought his increased symptoms were because the rifampin lowered the doses of several of the babesia meds, but maybe it was a rifampin herx rather than a need for more babesia meds.
He has an appointment next week with his LLMD and we will probably start him back on just rifampin and doxy and see what kind of reaction he has leaving out any babesia meds to complicate the picture.
Hubby is on oral phenergan and I even gave him an extra butt shot of phenergan but that didn't stop the vomiting. His fever was not really high enough for the fever itself to cause vomiting. I am pretty sure the rifampin is the trigger because he only vomits after supper and he takes that med on an empty stomach 1 hour before supper.
Nausea has been one of hubby's primary symptoms the entire 11 years he has been ill. But for him babesia seems to be the major cause of nausea. Bart is practically gone (based on symptoms and blood slides)and his nausea fluctuates based on what is going on with babs treatment.
Good luck and if the vomiting continues then I would try to decrease the rifampin again to see if that makes a difference.

Are you doing anything for detox such as chorella or activated charcoal et.al.?
I have had dry heaves or vomiting when i added bio film busters to rifampin but it diminished when I started detoxing.
Just something to think about as I'm by no means a specialist just passing along what helped me.

She is detoxing with chlorella and ToxiHMF. We could probably increase epsom salt baths etc.
I think I will wait out another day and see if she stabilizes. She feels generally a little better today.
