I know that lyme thrives in scar tissue and areas of decreased oxygen and blood flow.

Was wondering if those who had surgery prior to treating lyme have flare-ups in those areas when herxing or flaring?

About 2 years ago I had major surgery to my skull/cerebellum area. Bone needed to be removed and placement of a bovine pericardium patch placed in the dura.

I THOUGHT I was lyme free prior to the surgery but that was not the case. I had major complications.

The 4 month of steroids I needed really flared things up and I hit lyme rock bottom.

Anyway, the area of the surgery and where the dura patch is feels terrible and inflammed when I am herxing and sometimes even when I am not.

I still am not sure if I am reacting to the bovine patch or it is lyme creating issues.

Anyone else with areas of weakness from surgery or injury that continues to be effected by lyme?

I had a similar experience after a double hernia surgery. I too thought I was Lyme free before the surgery and

about 2 weeks after I went downhill. However, I do not have any issues where the surgery was performed. I feel

that the stress on the body during surgery is what set things off.

Thanks KYForester.

Good news that the surgical site does not give you any problems!

KYForester,

I have a small annoying umbilical hernia that I'm considering getting repaired while I'm a bit incapacitated due to PICC line and IV therapy. The hernia discourages me from getting agressive with core strenthening excercises that I need to do more (especially since I can't do much with upper body due to PICC).

I've been treating Lyme with ABX for a little over two years. I don't think the surgery will be that invassive and recovery time should be quick.

Anyone have any concerns about Lyme related flares or other risks from this type of surgery.

My advice (even though I did not have your type of surgery) is to avoid any steriods. None..Zippo..

I had to take them because the inflammation in my brain and spinal cord was dangerously bad AND I thought my lyme was a thing of the past. I was wrong.

But now almost 2 years later I am paying for it.

Thank you, I'm well aware of steroid avoidance. I had a rhymmy try to give me predizone about a year ago, and I held up my fingers in a cross and said no f*#n way. That was the last time I saw her.
