Just when I thought I had my breakfast food and meals figured out to have with my doxy, I am now wondering.... I take doxy with all 3 meals because my system can't handle 2 heavier doses per day.
I have one egg most mornings, scrambled with soy milk that is not fortified with calcium (hard to find!). I have been adding fresh parsley to my egg (a lot) because it tastes so good to me and I know it aids in digestion. I was reading the nutritional content of parsley, and it is high in iron, calcium and magnesium.
I have read that you don't want to mix doxy with these minerals because it will not be as well absorbed. Now I am wondering if the doxy has even gotten into my system at the right dosage.
I eat a lot of soups and salads at lunch and dinner, which have greens and veggies that are also high in these minerals.
Have any of you who needed to take doxy with meals gotten better when your meals included things like parsley and other high mineral foods?

I have never thought about researching the nutritional content of the food that I take with doxy. That's interesting.
I have only avoided taking doxy with supplements because I figured they had much higher concentrations of the minerals than foods would.
I'm interested to hear responses to this. I've just been eating some nuts and fruit when I take mine.

I doubt you need to be concerned about the mineral and calcium content of vegetables, including parsley.
One cup of milk contains 300 mg of calcium. So, you are not to take doxy with milk.
Check on the calcium content of parsley. You know how much you use. I doubt it will be anywhere near 300 mg of calcium in the morning with the egg. So, then I wouldn't worry about it.
Do the same with the mag and iron. Get a vitamin pill bottle and see how much mag it contains per serving and how much iron per serving. Then, compute how much mag and iron you are getting with your salads. I really doubt it is enough to matter.
My doc just told me to avoid dairy and to avoid supplements that contained iron and mag. So, I believe those are the only rules.

I took the higher lyme dose of doxy (& rifampin) with my meals and they worked (knocked my bart way down). I ate mineral rich quinoa every morning(high in calcium, magnesium and iron) and meat and veggies every evening, with a scoop of something starchy (try brown rice or quinoa). I need some starch with meds or else sometimes my stomach or gallbladder hurts.
But who knows for sure. Maybe you have something here. Maybe I could have wiped my bart completely out but not taking it after the quinoa.

Thanks everyone. It is hard to find that middle ground sometimes with all of the 'rules' we need to follow to get better. I have probably done no harm with the parsley. I will continue taking it but maybe reduce the amount a bit.

I took Doxy with my meals and never worried about what was in those meals - I just never took supplements with those meals, and the Doxy worked for me
