Is there any way to tell whether the bladder pain is due to bacteria or yeast? I know yeast can cause irritation, but does it also cause that feeling of pressure?

I imagine since I'm on high doses of doxy that a culture will not show bacteria, even if that's the cause.

I would go get a UA just to be sure. I'm really not sure if the yeast issues would be the same pain.

Doxy may not be working on the bacteria you have .. or may have.

Thanks as always, Lymetutu. [Smile]

I went to the doc, and of course they found nothing, but they're going to try culturing it (and will probably still find nothing).

I'm relying on drinking tons of water and taking an herbal mix of ginger, juniper, marshmallow, parsley, uva ursi, cramp bark, and goldenseal.

It makes me feel silly to go to the doc when they tell me they don't see anything wrong with me. (I guess I'm preaching to the choir, though.) I keep second-guessing my decision to go to the doctor on days like this. It's comforting to know that you think it was smart to get a culture done!

I'm so worried that they'll think I'm a hypochondriac. Last time I went in for knee pain and a very swollen knee. They told me I have runner's knee, even though I have avoided running for 6 months. Now my knee and my hip hurt all the time and swell up periodically. I'm not sure why I thought they'd be able to help me!

I hear ya!! I hate going to the dr for the same reasons. Even though my Dr is great and I know he believes me, I keep "waiting" for the day when he says .. "You're nuts!" [Big Grin]

I stay on D-Mannose twice a day to keep bladder infections at bay. I have not had one in 2 yrs even though I have IC.

Cranberry juice is the number one "home cure" for a true urinary tract infection. It contains an acid that the bacteria cannot survive.

Some people cannot tolerate the acid. D-Mannose does the same thing.

D-Mannose was $35 at my local store! But it's worth it if it works.

Thanks AuntyLynn. Unfortunately, I happen to be one of the people whose bladder can't handle cranberry juice. Grapefruit seed extract has the same effect.

I have had a major UTI that lasted for a year even before i knew I had Lyme.

I went to see at least 5 urologists and they all said-there is nothing wrong with me. A year later they did cystoscopy and saw ulcers inside my bladder, but still nothing that they could do, just gave me prescription for stronger painkillers.

Even now, just a thought of it gives me shivers- it was a nightmare. That was my worst symptom.

I figured among all co-infections, it was Borrelia, since this symptom slowly disappeared
during the Lyme treatment when I took Doxy or Ceftin.
Ceftin helped the most

Ulcers inside the bladder is Interstitial Cystitis. Mine is 90% better with Lyme treatment. Not an issue most of the time.
