Just got back a positive LabCorps test (no IgG bands, all 3 IgM - 41, 39, 23) for my 3 year old.

I'm feeling very scared and overwhelmed.

I've been battling lyme for 6 years, bit in 2003.

I'm doing pretty well, overall.

So... my 3 year old has no symptoms. We tested the placenta when he was born and it was negative.

Could it be that his immune system is keeping it in check? I can't imagine putting him on long-term antibiotics with no symptoms.

Do some test positive but are completely asymptomatic?

Many children may not be symptomatic until they are in school, where neurological become more noticeable, such as ADD and mimicking ASD.

I'm sure there are more signs, but these are the ones I am most familiar with.

I wonder if the antibodies were transferred to him from your breast milk? Might be good to discuss this with your Lyme doctor...

I have discussed with my LLMD, just looking for more opinions and experiences.

I'm assuming it couldn't be antibodies from breast milk since I've never tested positive on those bands. But I'd be happy for that to be the case!

that he's been exposed, we'll never know where/when but likely from me during pregnancy or via breastmilk.

I think I remember hearing renowned Ped LLMD Dr J say in a video I watched, that he would not treat a child who was asymptomatic.

Does anyone else remember seeing/hearing Dr J say this?

Not sure if it was an ILADS conference video or what.

I agree that I would want a good Ped LLMD to decide.

Sorry to hear the test results. This might be they type of situation the new Lyme culture test would be of great use.

I can't remember the lab (Advanced Labs??). If you haven't heard about it, I'm sure you can find a thread here.

Yes, I do remember hearing that Dr. J wouldn't treat if asymptomatic.

thanks all. a culture test would be great.

my LLMD suggests immune boosters specific to lyme and watching him closely.

maybe the shock and worry will wear off a little, but i feel like i will always be waiting for something to show up (lots of stress).

i'm sure other lyme parents can understand...

*No, there are some in CA who treat children, and another in CT who treats children (I don't know who it is, though.)

By the way, LLMD in CA also said they absolutely won't treat a child unless there are symptoms.

any advice on how to identify symptoms?

i've read the symptom list 1,000 times.

but he's 3. of course he is irritable, etc...

he has had petechiae here and there. like one or two every few months.

he has some swollen lymph nodes. which i keep hearing/confirming is very common in kids.

his white blood cell count was low, but now is normal.
