I met someone today that had Steere as her doctor and she raved about him and said he cured her with IV antibiotics.

When she mentioned his name I think she saw that my eyes almost popped out of my head. All I've heard is negative things about him on here.

I guess I was surprised to hear that he helped her since all I've heard is that he doesn't believe chronic Lyme exists. Anyway, this woman said she's been symptom free 5 years thanks to him.

I have a friend who was treated by Steere with IV. When symptoms came back she went back to him and he told her she now has "fibromyalgia".

She suffered horribly for years until she figured out that she indeed has chronic lyme. He continues to promulgate his belief that chronic lyme does not exist. The ppl who are not cured by the normal courses of abx have what he calls post lyme syndrome, an autoimmune disease, not an active infection.

Here is a recent article in pubmed where he is listed as an author

Lancet Infect Dis. 2011 Sep;11(9):713-9.

Antiscience and ethical concerns associated with advocacy of Lyme disease.

Auwaerter PG, Bakken JS, Dattwyler RJ, Dumler JS, Halperin JJ, McSweegan E, Nadelman RB, O'Connell S, Shapiro ED, Sood SK, Steere AC, Weinstein A, Wormser GP.

Abstract

Advocacy for Lyme disease has become an increasingly important part of an antiscience movement that denies both the viral cause of AIDS and the benefits of vaccines and that supports unproven (sometimes dangerous) alternative medical treatments.

Some activists portray Lyme disease, a geographically limited tick-borne infection, as a disease that is insidious, ubiquitous, difficult to diagnose, and almost incurable; they also propose that the disease causes mainly non-specific symptoms that can be treated only with long-term antibiotics and other unorthodox and unvalidated treatments.

Similar to other antiscience groups, these advocates have created a pseudoscientific and alternative selection of practitioners, research, and publications and have coordinated public protests, accused opponents of both corruption and conspiracy, and spurred legislative efforts to subvert evidence-based medicine and peer-reviewed science.

The relations and actions of some activists, medical practitioners, and commercial bodies involved in Lyme disease advocacy pose a threat to public health.

REALLY,,,,

Wow !If that IS true I wonder how much she was paid off to say that. That creep Steere is now living beneath the rocks with all the other snakes as mentioned in the article posted below.

In ref to Steere and his comrades: WE ALL HAVE TO DIE AND WE ALL HAVE TO ANSWER TO THE LORD. Steere also is the leader responsible for what was done to Dr. Burrascano. He is from Mass. Why didn't he start his wonderful Amer. Lyme Fdtn. there, Of course NY- to be closer to Dr. B to get him.The evil ones got him all right. What they did to him is criminal. The good have to suffer on this earth.

Also as Dr. Burrascano said in his TV news interview, Once they smash him as he was the lead in Lyme treatment then all the other drs. would freeze. Exactly what happened. Dr. B is a good man. He stuck his neck out for the patients. Again I repeat-usually on this earth I myself wonder why do the exceptionally good have to suffer.

One thing for sure as I have been told due to a personal horror story-Justice is not always received in this world. The evil ones can harm the body but they cannot harm the soul. There is forgiveness, but how can one forgive if the evil doers are not sorry.
God does not forgive either if one is not sorry.

As far as Steere, Datwyler, McSweegan, Shapiro, Wormser and the rest, they all will have their judgement day in the court of the Lord. Life is short. MONEY, payoffs, ego, pride. One can find old articles from the 80's and early 90's -sero negativity is a real entity, and late stage lyme is like tertiary syphlis etc. If these scientist drs. are so great, how then can they suddenly later have a complete about face. Then I would say they are stupid idiots..yes stupid or DUMB LIKE A FOX.

God sees all: "Do not avenge yourselves (which is very hard to do) I will repayeth sayeth the Lord, vengeance is mine"

In ref to this from the article:

MY COMMENT: IF ANYONE POSES A THREAT TO PUBLIC HEALTH IT IS THE AUTHORS OF THIS ARTICLE...SHAMEFUL-That garbage gets published & authentic articles by a decent proper lyme dr. they won't publish. sick sick- It sounds like they are getting desparate. None of them are spring chickens and yet ---God All Mighty--- that article really makes no sense. I really isn't medical. It is phyco and SLANDEROUS.

A few lucky people are "cured" (??) with a few weeks of abx... caught EARLY. But what happens when it comes back?? I sure wouldn't go to the likes of Steere to help me. He would say I have "Post Lyme Syndrome" and just to live with it.

You all are right on the money. I talked to her again today and got more details.

He did not treat her. She went to him for a second opinion after treatment b/c after 6 wks. of IV she still had some mild symptoms.

Sure enough he told her she had had Lyme but now it was "post lyme syndrome"!

So I asked her what did she do then? Who continued to treat her? And she said no one. It went away on it's own after that and never came back and it's been 5 yrs.

I have a very personal friend that saw Dr Steere
and was asked to show his hands , at this point Dr steere said he didn't have Lyme disease.
This was the total exam.

This person thought he was unknowingly included in Dr steeres study that said "83% of the people that saw him for Lyme disease didn't have Lyme disease.
