Infection or sometimes simply a 5-MTHFR gene defect.

"Google" these words: OCD anxiety 5-MTHFR

Do you have OCD and anxious thoughts?

This is related to serotonin in the brain.
SSRI's will help.

Nonprescription things that can help are magnesium and fish oil.
Anxiety is a symptom of low magnesium.

Hey guys thanks for the info and yes I have anxiety and OCD and anxious thoughts, I am going to be getting tested for the mthfr gene issue and do take rameron for these symptoms.

I am not taking any mag right now cause I'm on foxy but i do take fish oil.

I have a feeling it is Bart as it is flaring more now that I am treating Lyme and will be moving to Bart treatment in 2 months.

Also can mthfr gene issue be treated effectively enough to stop the anxious thoughts?

Yes and Yes to your answer Maya, it could be bart babs or lyme any infection can cause it.

I use to be really bad like this.

Also Lithium Orotate may help some.

But treating infections has helped alot.

You could also be herxing focus on detox

It could be caused my SO many things, in my opinion! Best to proceed with treatment and try to address lyme, babs and bart.

I didn't think I had bart, but according to recent tests, I may. Now it makes sense where my uncontrollable anxiety and psych issues may come from, but I also have babs, so who really knows???

I have had a bottle of prozac sitting on the counter for a month. I am so scared to try it. It is low dose. I just get so scared thinking abt messing with my brain more?

I have to take xanax to get through the day, too. I hate it.

Just wanted to add a "me too!" for magnesium and fish oil. If you have a personal or family history of addiction, you may need to add evening primrose oil for the fish oil to work properly.

Also, a lot of people on here have reported significant improvement in their anxiety once they treat for parasites. I plan to start treating parasites once I get a good detox protocol in place.

Details of the magnesium, fish oil and evening primrose oil I take:

Magnesium Malate Chelate (Designs for Health)
1 tablet at breakfast, 1/2 tablet at dinner, 1 tablet at bedtime.

Natural Factors OmegaRx
1 capsule, 3 times a day

Vital Nutrients Evening Primrose oil
1 capsule, 3 times a day

--------------------
Clinical dx/muscle tests
+ CBS upregulation, parasites, babs
- bart, KPU, yeast, mold

Blood tests
MCTD (autoimmune): +RNP
MTHFR - homozygous C677T
CD57 - 192

Diet - modified paleo

A lot of us whose children started out as PANDAS, which has the hallmark of OCD, anxiety, tics-

Treated for strep, over and over, without lasting gains,

and then went on to find Lyme and Bartonella.

My vote is Bartonella.

--------------------
Lyme positive PCR blood, and
positive Bartonella henselae Igenex, 2011.
low positive Fry biofilm test, 2012.
Update 7/16- After extensive treatments,
doing okay!

Thanks guys for all your help and insight, my gut is telling me it's Bart but I am treating for Lyme and parisites right now so I wonder if these worsening of symptoms could also be from a herx.

Can anyone tell me if a herx from parasites would cause more anxiety?

Maya,

Anxiety is HIGH on the list for parasites. If you are taking antiparasitics, this IS a HERX from PARASITES. You can always check the symptom list at Humaworm or google parasite symptoms.

If you are looking for me, just send me a private message. I forget, what are you taking?

Parasites can cause anxiety and panic attacks even when you're not trying to kill them. Yes the anxiety can increase from the dieoff. If you were not having anxiety before the antiparasitics, then it's most likely not coming from the other meds.

Yes, bartonella is expecially bad, but flagyl causes bad depression and anxiety as well, it is side effect of this med.

Lyme disease can cause anxiety. It is called "lyme anxiety." So, treating lyme could cause this anxiety to get worse.

I had lots of lyme anxiety prior to my diagnosis and during treatment. Good lyme treatment got rid of it. I also took anti-anxiety meds to get me through.

If lyme has caused a drop in your female hormones, that in itself can cause anxiety, just like it does in menopause. Lyme gave me a false menopause.

So, the choices are endless when a lyme patient is looking for a cause for anxiety.

Lithium is good and bad...extremely toxic to kidneys, messes with the thyroid too.

Long term use of lithium = kidney dialysis for kidney failure.

Xanax and GABA help with anxiety if someone has that 5MTHFR defect (yet not confirmed), but not lyme...from personal experience - my son.

Epinephrine, norepinephrine and cortisol are involved.

Woman to woman...good link!

http://www.womentowomen.com/depressionanxietyandmood/anxiety.aspx

Need to know...GABA is the brain's brake. Glutamate is the brain's accelerator. They are thought to be the "workhorses" of the brain.

When Bb infects a cell, cGMP is sorta "on" (gate is open) and this allows sodium in and calcium in and

glutamate out.

Think about that. Bb needs NaCl for motility. Calcium is a good biofim maker and having too much glutamate hanging around well...it is toxic.

High levels of DAG keep the gate open. I've seen it spelled 2 ways: diaglycerol and diacylglycerol - see the addition of cycl?

Sooo...close the gate or send in a drug/drugs thru the gate?

Both look to work.

The beta blocker, Proponanol, helps with PTSD...memory of a horrible incident.

Inderol (tradename) is propranolol hydrochloride.

The "chloride" caught my attention!

With flagyl, is anxiety/depression a side effect of the medication or could it be a herx?
