My LLMD says that I could be experiencing the bartonella/ babesia dance. Has anyone taken mepron and rifampin at the same time. That would be after taking mepron for a month, then starting rifampin. What were the results?

I think Mepron needs to be taken with a macrolide such as Zithromax, Biaxin, or Ketek to be effective.
I believe that Rifampin can lower the effectiveness of Mepron. Maybe others here know if this is true.
You may want to research this and speak with your doctor about it.

Rifampin should not be taken with mepron. It will greatly reduce the effectivness. I'm assuming the rifampin is for bartonella. there are other great meds for bartonela that can be used with mepron like biaxin xl.

Hubby will be discussing adding back rifampin to his malarone and other meds at his next LLMD appointment. We are still not 100% sure if his fevers are from babesia or ehrlichia or another rickettsia species. Levaquin has helped as has malarone and lariam. But the daily low grade fevers continue.
He will be switching from doxy to mino and probably increasing the dose or the frequency of the lariam and hope to add back rifampin and then maybe clindamycin as well.
We just haven't come up with the right combo of meds and herbs yet since the fevers came back when he restarted antibiotics after a 50 day break off meds. And his WBC, RBC, hemoglobin, hematocrit and platelets keep trying to go low so there is obviously an infectious element in play that is hard to identify and seems even harder to treat.
Hubby plans to start with 300 mg rifampin and then increase the dose from there. I would definitely suggest starting at that dose or even lower if you have never taken that med before -- it can cause lots of unexpected herx symptoms.
This is not medical advice, just my opinions based on hubby's experiences.
