Looking for any info on Vancomysin. Hubby has been switched to IV Vanco. Typed it in the search, but only one post comes up. Anybody have any comments on it?

First drug I have taken that I have seen real improvement with. It is a strong one for sure! I personally did not have any side-effects with it, just some herxing here and there. Most of the time, I just saw slow improvement.
Best of luck!

I was put on IV Vanco. First infusion, about half an hour into it, I started getting itchy & hot. Then the insanely painful bladder pain began, and it hurt so bad the pain radiated down both legs to my toes and all I could do was roll around and moan. It was the worst pain I'd ever had in my life (and I say this after having had RSD pain in both feet for 4 years - RSD pain is worse than childbirth pain according to those who've experienced both).
My Mom called the doctor and he said I was having an allergic reaction. I wonder about that....I really suspect a herx but because I did have an allergic reaction to Erythromycin, I'm not sure.

Well they told us it is a harsh drug. He has to take a 50mg benedryl first. And then there is the major flush which can happen. Thus the benedryl.

Yes, be very aware of Red-Man syndrome! I got EXTREMELY flushed. It got less and less with each subsequent dose. Pre-medicating with liquid works better than pills. Also, be cautious with allergic reactions.

I got redman syndrome my first dose but nothing after that. This disease is not for the weak and if you want to get well, you have to take treatment risks.
Unfortuntely, no one has the answers on how to best treat.
