I had a deer tick bite last week and with my history of Lyme my family MD prescribed Doxy 200 mg twice a day.
The doxy is causing pretty severe heartburn/reflux symptoms to the point that even my throat is sore. Some nausea.
Instructions say no antacids and I know about the no dairy thing.
Anyone had experience with this? Any suggestions on how to treat?
Thank you.

I remember I had to take it in the middle of a meal and couldn't lay down afterwards. Do you think it's the doxy or bart (bart gave me massive gerd)? I suspect the tick may have given me hpylori. Once I started taking two abx at the same time, my gerd went away.

Anyone know if you can take a proton pump inhibitor with doxy?
I wanted to continue on the doxy but not sure I can take a month of this. I previously had some similar symptoms from doxy but not to this extent.
Good point Catgirl ... I didn't have a clue a tick could actually transmit H pylori. Course, I already have a history of Babs, Lyme, and Bart and it took literally years of treatment to get me functional again.
Need to do whatever necessary to address this early as I do not want to go down that road again.

Connie... I am SO SORRY to hear this!!!!! UGH!!!!
I would take in the middle of the meal also and not lie down for an hour.
I began taking PPI's when I was first treated. Still on them. (dang)
Why not ask for Doryx??? MUCH MUCH easier on the stomach, just costs more.

I am taking omeprazole, which treats acid reflux, while taking doxy. This is under my LLND's orders due to severe nausea from doxy. I take it first thing in the morning at least an hour before any ABX and before I eat my breakfast. It has made a difference.

Good to know. Guess I am getting older. I used to have an iron stomach as nothing ever bothered me. But now, not so much. Nothing like having to walk around with a sour stomach feeling nauseated all the time. Miserable.
Good to know about the PPIs and Doxy and I stopped to get some omeprazole on the way home.
I seem to be a tick magnet this year. The area I was exposed was in central Virginia, an area near Lynchburg where there was recently a warning to doctors to treat any and all tick bites as if they transmit Lyme, etc.
While I love to kayak those rivers up there, i guess those days are over ... sad. I took every precaution but still got 4 tick bites, one of them a deer tick bite. We were camping with 30 other people and I was the only one who got bites. Makes no sense. I can only assume there is something about my body chemistry that attracts them. DEET, mowing and pre-spraying of the area, constant checking, etc did no good.
I hate ticks. It is bad enough they took several years of my life, but now they take what I love to do.
Thank you for the advice!

I am so glad VA put out that warning about treating all tick bites. You will not regret having a few difficult weeks compared to the years of suffering that so many with chronic lyme must endure.
I hope that the omeprazole helps and you are as 'good as new' following treatment. Best wishes!
