I'm curious about this too. I thought you only herxed from killing spirochetes (lyme syphillus and lepto) so do you herx with Bart and Babs? and if not, what is happening when you feel worse on treatment?

I don't believe I herxed when I treated bart.
I got rid of lyme, babs, and bart 7 years ago. I remember the lyme herxes and the babs flares/herxes. But, I just don't remember anything like that for bart.

Some strains of bart - along with some kinds of lyme - carry neurotoxins that are released when they die.
Taking something bacterocidal kills them and releases the neurotoxins. Depending on which particular neurotoxins you have you may very well get emotional (angry, depressed), paranoid, psychotic, all sorts of nasty things.
Ramping up the meds can help a lot. With 250 mg cipro twice a day I just started feeling better. Later it got doubled to 500 twice a day and I herxed something awful. I think if I'd had a few stops in between the herx wouldn't have been as intense - but it probably would have lasted longer.
