My son tested positive for lyme but no other co-infections. However, he has terrible nightmares and often night sweats. He has had them for years and they are very frequent. He is being treated for lyme but they are still prevalent. Can they be a symptom of Lyme?

I get nightmares and night sweats if I take too much of a medication or supplement that increases serotonin.

Liver support may need to be changed. A distressed liver can cause nightmares and lyme is so toxic, treatment rough, too - that the liver needs so much support.

You might also search "lucid dreaming" and used some of those techniques to help him not be so frightened afterward by "reframing" it all - rewriting it so that he can take control and put into context.

He may not be able to actually control his dreams but those same techniques can help afterward.

Adrenal support is also helpful as the adrenal stress from nightmares can clobber anyone.

Violent TV or movie images can trigger nightmares, too. Be sure he just doesn't even see scary images -- hard to do as even commercials are so violent.

Dehydration can also trigger nightmares, be sure he gets enough water as the body is very toxic during these stealth infections.

More colorful veggies can help, too. The antioxidants are as good as gold.

Still, it's very common with lyme & other tick-borne infections. Do be sure the LLMD is aware.

Some meds do this more than others, too.

I had severe nightmares and night terrors from Lyme. On my worst nights, I would awaken many times a night experiencing scary visual hallucinations. Other nights, I would dream incessantly of sickness and death, very scary and morbid stuff.

Once the Lyme was successfully treated, the nightmares and hallucinations promptly stopped. It was not until I was treated with IV rocephin that the nightmares stopped.

Dr. J once told me this symptom is suggestive of temporal lobe involvement.

** edited to remove doctor's name **

MAGNESIUM and FISH OIL should help calm down the over active nerve reaction from the toxicity, too.

sixgoofykids, I see you edited out the doctor's name in my message. I don't normally write names, I know this is a no-no for the sake of our doctors. In past years, this doctor had said to go ahead and use his name, and so he was generally an exception to the rule. Has this changed? If so, I just want to be aware of it.

Thanks!
