Next week I'm supposed to get a line put in so I can do IV doxy. I'm having trouble finding a pharmacy that carries it. The one place my doc found will end up costing about $2600/month. Yikes!
Anyone have experience with a good (perhaps cheaper?) pharmacy and IV doxy? Either mail order or somewhere near-ish Seattle, WA?
Thanks, as always, AnnaL

Hubby just got a script from his doc and ordered the powdered doxy in 100 mg vials to mix ourselves. We got the doxy from Rite Aid -- thye have been a better source for us than Walgreens or CVS -- has a different supplier.
If your doc will train you to do the IV's yourself you can save lots of money.
You also need scripts for the supplies -- IV bags and tubing. We order those from Medhaus mailorder pharmacy. And we get boxes of 100 10cc syringes with needles from Rite Aid to use in mixing the meds.
Everything else I get over the counter -- cloth tape, bandaids and hydrogen peroxide and alcohol pads. We definitely go the minimal route.
Usually when hubby gets a new PICC line they give him some sterile supplies and we do use those until they run out.
Good luck.

Thanks, I'll check with Rite Aid for the doxy. I'll also look into Medhaus.
I'm an old pro at getting most IV supplies (I was on Rocephin for quite a long time.)
I do have insurance, but I doubt they will pay for the IV drugs/supplies. At least that was my experience when I was on Rocephin.

IV doxy is expensive, unfortunately. See if you can mix it your self from Infuserve with a something-mate (I forget the name). It's not stable long otherwise. Plus, it would be cheaper.

What does the price come out to if you mix it yourself?

I'm very comfortable with mixing myself--I did with the Rocephin. I'm planning on checking with infuserve. I'll post what I find out.
