My kindergartener has been in treatment for Lyme for several months now.
I'm worried that coinfections are starting to come out (initial testing was all negative).
High anxiety, oppositional behavior, screaming meltdowns...
But the one that is throwing me is the tics - she has had them before, but since she started treatment, she has started picking at her nails to the point where they look like nasty stubs. She has even ripped out a toenail such that it is partially ripped out of the nailbed.
She tested negative for PANDAS.
Our next LLMD appt isn't for 6 weeks.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Oh, that poor kid.
Something that may help is magnesium. Lyme depletes the magnesium in our cells, causing lots of symptoms.
Have you seen this site? Facial and Eye Tics in Children: The Links to Magnesium Deficiency http://www.ctds.info/tics.html
Lots of information there, and look at the site map.

Are you sure that's a tic? My daughter has tics and has also had OCD behaviors. Constant picking sounds more like OCD to me than a tic. For my daughter, Rifampin seems to reduce the tics the most so it's likely Bartonella. OCD was greatly helped by just Augmentin, so for her it was probably knocking back the Lyme or strep.
