I just received an email from a couple living on Orcas Island, WA (one of the San Juan Islands) who have both been diagnosed with lyme. I've suspected for a long time that lyme is a problem on the islands.

Wow! It seems to me that reported cases of lyme are really skyrocketing now! I predict that there will soon be an explosion of lyme cases in the Pacific Northwest and that it is a real problem here. Wa has the highest incident of diagnosed MS in the country.

I love the islands and spend many weekends there in the summer sitting on the rocks waiting for a magical visit by the beloved resident orcas. I will be there this weekend, AND, I have a friend who lives on the island and in Seattle. I am in contact with her dog all the time! Now I'm scared that I'm reinfecting myself without knowing it by being around this dog.

I have found a tiny tick once on myself and another time on my son from my wooded backyard (in Western WA).

My husband thinks I'm ridiculous for suggesting we move! I'm just terrified that my 3 kids are going to get Lyme...
